Wimbledon is a sporting event that holds many unique traditions and values.

From the all-white dress code at Wimbledon to the strawberries and cream, the grass court major has held these traditions for 148 years.

However, they have made one big adjustment for the 2025 tournament, with Wimbledon being criticised for removing line judges entirely.

This is not the only rule that will be introduced this year, as an unprecedented thing is set to happen for opening round matches at Wimbledon.

The unknown rule that will be implemented at Wimbledon this year

With scorching temperatures forecasted in the British capital, conditions are set to be challenging for players at Wimbledon this year.

This is something that has been pointed out by the former coach of Coco Gauff, Brad Gilbert, who revealed that there would be allowed breaks for players to manage the hot conditions.

For best-of-three set women’s matches, players will be entitled to a 10-minute break between the second and third sets, if required, while men’s best-of-five set singles matches will be able to use this break during the third and fourth sets.

Gilbert wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Fire up for day one @Wimbledon⁩ going to be toasty and record temps for 1st day, fitness will definitely be tested. Interesting women will be allowed 10 min break between 2nd-3rd sets men between 3rd-4th sets this when temps hit 86 degrees.”

According to the official Wimbledon website, this rule comes into place when the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature is at or above 30.1 degrees Celsius.

Only one player involved in the match needs to request the break for it to be implemented, but they are not able to receive any coaching or medical treatment.

Wimbledon 2025 Weather Forecast

This rule looks to be very important for the first couple of days of the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, where temperatures are at times predicted to reach as high as 34 degrees Celsius.

However, for Centre Court and Court No.1 which both possess roofs, this rule can only be implemented when the roof is open.

Temperatures are expected to drop as the tournament goes on, with even the potential of some rain during the first week.
