Karen Khachanov has reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon for the second time in his career, after defeating Kamil Majchrzak in the fourth round.

Khachanov defeated Majchrzak 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the last eight at the All England Club for the first time since 2021.

That year, the Russian bowed out to the then-10th seed Denis Shapovalov in a five-set clash, marking, at the time, his joint-best Grand Slam finish.

Since then, Khachanov missed the tournament in 2022 and 2023, and crashed out in the second round last season, but the 29-year-old is back to his best at Wimbledon, and has just achieved something remarkable in SW19.

Karen Khachanov sets quarter-final record at Grand Slams

With his win over Majchrzak, Khachanov has become the first man born in the 1990s to reach multiple quarter-finals at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

He did it for the first time at the French Open in 2019, before losing to Dominic Thiem in straight sets, and then again in 2023; this time suffering defeat to eventual champion Novak Djokovic.

Having now secured a second Wimbledon quarter-final, he is the only ’90s-born star to have achieved the feat.

Notable names to have never matched Khachanov’s record include Thiem, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev.

Khachanov will take on fifth seed Taylor Fritz in the quarter-final, against whom he has a winning record.

He has played the American twice, winning their first meeting at the Shanghai Masters 1000 event in 2019, where he emerged victorious in straight sets.

In 2020, Khachanov beat Fritz once again in the round-robin of the ATP Cup, coming back from a set down against the world number five.

Now, the two will have their first match against each other on grass, with the winner set to play either Cam Norrie or defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals.
