Coco Gauff scraped through her opening match in Canada, producing a less-than-convincing performance.
Taking on her fellow American Danielle Collins, Gauff looked to be in trouble throughout the match and was just two points away from defeat during the third set.
Battling back, Gauff eventually defeated Collins 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 [7-2] to clinch her place in the third round of the Canadian Open.

The match will, however, be best remembered for Gauff’s dismal serving performance, where she made just 53% of her first serves and hit 23 double faults.
Unfortunately for Gauff, those double-fault numbers aren’t all that uncommon for her, but who else has struggled with their serve on the WTA Tour this year?
Top five WTA players with the most double faults in 2025
1. Coco Gauff – 250
It’s the world number two who takes the top spot on this list, as the only player in the women’s game to have made over 200 double faults in 2025.
Gauff has struggled with her serve throughout her career, despite her best efforts to address the problem.

The 21-year-old has now made 20+ double faults in two matches this year, a poor record for someone of her quality.
- 2025 Canadian Open 2R v Danielle Collins – 23 double faults
- 2025 Miami Open 2R v Moyuka Uchijima – 21 double faults
She’s proven she can win Grand Slams in spite of her serving woes, but if she wants to take the next step and become world number one, it’s clear where the work needs to be done.
2. Linda Noskova – 193
Second to Gauff is Czech youngster Linda Noskova, who has made 193 double faults during her 2025 campaign so far.
The 20-year-old is one of the most highly-rated prospects on tour, but like Gauff, will need to sort out her serve if she wants to progress.
Noskova hit six double faults in the Prague Open final recently, as she missed out on her second WTA title, losing to Marie Bouzkova in three sets.
She made a further five double faults in her opening match at the Canadian Open, losing out to Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian.
Noskova will now look to regroup ahead of the Cincinnati Open, an event at which she lost in the first round last year.
3. Amanda Anisimova – 190
Making 190 double faults in 2025 is Amanda Anisimova, the American star yet to make her return to tennis after losing 0-6, 0-6 in the Wimbledon final.
There, Anisimova made five double faults, suffering one of the worst defeats of her career at the hands of Iga Swiatek.
She’ll certainly be hoping for a better performance when she returns to action in Canada on Wednesday, taking on New Zealand’s Lulu Sun.
4. Dayana Yastremska – 184
Next up is Ukrainian star Dayana Yastremska, who shocked Gauff at Wimbledon earlier this year.
There’s no doubt that Yastremska is a talented player, proven by her five top-ten wins, but her double faults are certainly holding her back.
The 25-year-old has lost her last four WTA finals, and her double faults have let her down in all four matches.
- 2025 Nottingham Open final – 2 double faults (Opponent: McCartney Kessler – 2)
- 2025 Linz Open final – 8 double faults (Opponent: Ekaterina Alexandrova – 3)
- 2022 Lyon Open final – 3 double faults (Opponent: Zhang Shuai – 2)
- 2020 Adelaide International final – 4 double faults (Opponent: Ash Barty – 2)
Things didn’t look much better in her opening match at the Canadian Open, as Yastremska made six double faults in her three-set win over Camila Osorio.
Yastremska will need to improve those numbers if she wants to take down America’s Emma Navarro in her next match.
5. Jelena Ostapenko – 184
For better or for worse, Jelena Ostapenko is box office, and she’s simply one of the most entertaining players around.
The Latvian’s level varies more than most on tour, as she can go from losing in the first round to looking like a Slam contender within a couple of days.
If Ostapenko were to minimise her double faults, there is a good chance, however, that those bad days would become more of a rarity than they are today.

184 double faults is a big number, and if that were closer to 100, perhaps Ostapenko could challenge for a second Grand Slam title in the future.
Who had the most double faults on the WTA Tour in 2024?
It’s Gauff, Noskova, Anisimova, Yastremska, and Ostapenko who lead the way in 2025, but who was top of the pile for double faults last season?
| Rank | Name | Double faults |
| 1 | Coco Gauff | 430 |
| 2 | Marta Kostyuk | 370 |
| 3 | Daria Kasatkina | 316 |
| 4 | Paula Badosa | 310 |
| 5 | Ekaterina Siniakova | 287 |
| 6 | Katerina Siniakova | 270 |
| 7 | Katie Boulter | 266 |
| 8 | Jelena Ostapenko | 259 |
| 9 | Danielle Collins | 253 |
| 10 | Elise Mertens | 249 |
Gauff had the most double faults in 2024, by some margin, leading second-placed Marta Kostyuk by 60.
Only time will tell if the American can sort out her double-fault problem in the future, but it will certainly be something to look out for.
