Iga Swiatek will soon get her title defence underway at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships.

Swiatek captured a maiden crown at the All England Club last year, becoming the first from her country to win the singles tournament.

The Pole put together a remarkable campaign, during which she dropped just one set, ending with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory over Amanda Anisimova in the final.

How would you rate Coco Gauff’s chances of winning her first Wimbledon title with this draw?

Her triumph took her within just an Australian Open title away from the Career Grand Slam, which only six women have ever managed.

One year on, and Swiatek will now look to achieve a feat no WTA player has managed in a decade.

Iga Swiatek looks to snap 10-year cycle at Wimbledon

Swiatek is bidding to become the first player in 10 years to win consecutive women’s singles titles at the Wimbledon Championships.

While the men’s side has seen multiple title defences in SW19 over the last few years, there has been a different winner every year on the WTA Tour since Serena Williams went back-to-back in 2016.

Only two players have reached consecutive Wimbledon finals since 2016, the first of which is Williams, who did so in 2018 and 2019.

The other is Ons Jabeur, who finished as the runner-up in 2022 and 2023, with losses to Rybakina and Marketa Vondrousova.

Swiatek is seeded third at Wimbledon this year and is on the opposite half of the draw to world number one Aryna Sabalenka.

Iga Swiatek’s first opponent at Wimbledon 2026

Swiatek’s first-round opponent at Wimbledon comes in the form of Taylor Townsend, whom she has never faced before.

If she beats Townsend, the six-time major champion will take on either Karolina Pliskova or Tereza Valentova.

A dream matchup could be on the cards after that, as Swiatek is on a third-round collision course with Williams.

Williams, who has received a wildcard for the event, will take on Maya Joint first, and potentially Alex Eala in round two.

Swiatek and Williams never faced each other prior to the 44-year-old’s retirement in 2022.
