An American player hit the fastest serve out of all the WTA players in the first round of the Australian Open this year.
There is often a lot of discussion surrounding Coco Gauff’s serve, with the world number three’s issues on the shot very public.
Despite the talk around Gauff’s serve often being negative, she actually hit the seventh fastest serve from the first round of the women’s singles draw at the Australian Open.
While Gauff is up there in terms of this statistic, it is actually a much-lower ranked American player who has hit the fastest serve so far.

Alycia Parks tops fastest serves from the first round of the Australian Open
There were 128 players featuring in the first round of the women’s singles draw at the Australian Open, but it was actually world number 99 Alycia Parks who came out on top.
Parks has previously been compared to Serena Williams for her powerful serve, and she showed just why during her first round match against Alexandra Eala.
Which American man and woman do you think will go furthest at the Australian Open?
A lot of the talk around this match has been related to the number of fans supporting Eala at the Australian Open, but it was actually Parks who came out on top in this match.
During this match, Parks hit 12 aces past Eala, as well as produced a serve that was recorded at 196 km/h.
This was the fastest serve from the entire first round of the women’s singles draw at the Australian Open, with Parks even bettering Madison Keys, Naomi Osaka and Elena Rybakina, with the latter often called the best server on the WTA Tour.
| Fastest servers from the first round of the Australian Open | Speed of their fastest serve |
| Alycia Parks | 196 km/h |
| Madison Keys | 192 km/h |
| Elena Rybakina | 191 km/h |
| Naomi Osaka | 191 km/h |
| Paula Badosa | 190 km/h |

What is the fastest serve Alycia Parks has ever hit?
While Parks topped the serving speed for the entire first round of the women’s singles draw at the Australian Open, this is still not her quickest ever serve.
This came at the US Open in 2021, when a 20-year-old Parks hit a 207.6 km/h serve against Olga Danilovic.
As a result of this serve, Parks has the joint second official fastest serve in the history of the WTA Tour alongside Venus Williams.
What has been the biggest upset at the Australian Open so far?
The only player who has bettered Parks is former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki, who hit the fastest official serve in WTA history at the Bank of the West Classic tournament in 2014.
While Parks is no longer in the singles draw at the Australian Open this year, she is still playing doubles alongside Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska.
