The final Australian Open warm-up tournament is well underway, as players compete at the Adelaide International.

Just four days away from the beginning of the Australian Open, players are finishing up their preparations as they look to kick their season off with a bang in Melbourne.

Novak Djokovic lost in the Brisbane International last week, suffering a shock defeat to America’s Reilly Opelka in the quarter-finals.

Czech star Jiri Lehecka went on to win the title, as Opelka retired mid-way through the final, as he picked up his first title of the season.

Over at the Hong Kong Open, defending champion Andrey Rublev was upset in the first round by Fabian Marozsan, before Frenchman Alexandre Muller picked up the title.

This week players are competing in Auckland, and at the Adelaide International, where one home favorite has just extended his strange ATP record.

Thanasi Kokkinakis extends strange ATP record at his home Adelaide International

Having beaten Yoshihito Nishioka in his opening match in Adelaide, Thanasi Kokkinakis had the chance to reach an eighth career ATP quarter-final when he played Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the last 16.

In a thrilling match, the home-town favorite won 7-5, 4-6, 7-6, as he booked his place in the next round.

With the win, Kokkinakis reached an eighth career ATP quarter-final, and his fourth in Adelaide, a remarkable record for the 28-year-old who was born in the same city.

Thanasi Kokkinakis’ ATP quarter-finals

In fact, of Kokkinakis’ eight ATP quarter-finals, seven of them have come in Los Cabos, and Adelaide, with just one taking place elsewhere.

After booking his place in his latest Adelaide quarter-final, Kokkinakis was full of praise for his adoring home crowd.

“You guys are unbelievable,” he said.

“Every time I come out here, I can count on you guys to bring the energy.

“I don’t love playing anywhere else more than this.”

Kokkinakis was full of praise for Etcheverry who he beat in the last 16, before previewing his quarter-final tie against Sebastian Korda.

“Tomas [Martin Etcheverry] is a hell of a player,” he said.

“I knew it was going to be a dog fight, so I just tried to stay calm and pulled out of a couple of tricky situations.

“I had match points on him [Sebastian Korda] in Washington and he shanked a ball past me on the line and he won the match and the tournament, so that one I’ve kind of still got demons about that, to be honest.”

Who else is playing in the 2025 Adelaide International?

Kokkinakis faces a tough test against Korda in the next round but who else will be competing in the Adelaide International quarter-finals?

The two American stars Tommy Paul and Korda, are no doubt favorites for the tournament, having both won several ATP titles during their time on tour.

Felix Auger-Aliassime shouldn’t be counted out, however, as the former world number six is more than capable of an upset.

The Canadian has won five ATP titles in his career to date but is yet to lift a trophy outside of Europe.

It remains to be seen who will win the Adelaide International, but with the backing of his home crowd, Kokkinakis will no doubt be hoping to win a second career-title later this week.
