Terence Atmane has been unable to continue his momentum from his breakout run at the Cincinnati Open.
Atmane reached the semifinals of the Cincinnati Open last week, after beating the likes of Holger Rune, Taylor Fritz and Joao Fonseca.
The Frenchman’s run came to an end in the semifinals, where Atmane was beaten by Jannik Sinner.
Atmane did not receive a wildcard for the US Open, and subsequently withdrew from competing in qualifying.

Terence Atmane reveals injury that caused him to withdraw from US Open qualifying
Despite now being at a new career-high of world number 69, Atmane’s ranking at the time of the US Open entry list was not high enough to get him direct entry into the main draw.
Atmane was drawn to play British player Jan Choinski in the first round of US Open qualifying, but pulled out not long after.
It was unclear as to what the actual reason for his withdrawal was, and now Atmane has taken to social media to confirm that he has suffered a foot injury.
Explaining the exact diagnosis of the scan on his foot, Atmane revealed that he was sad to be withdrawing from US Open qualifying, but was making the most sensible decision for his future.
“Hello everyone,” Atmane began in an Instagram story. “After a foot MRI yesterday in NY (New York) we detected an: intermediate grade partial tearing of the media collateral ligament of the first MTP (metatarsophalangeal) joint. Grade two muscle injury involves the medial head of the flexor hallucis brevis. Low-grade partial tearing of the medial sesamoidal phalangeal ligament.
“Which in other terms won’t make me able to play the US Open. I do feel sad about it because with the last result I want to push for more but trying to be smart and get myself ready for Asia was the best decision for my team and I. See you guys in Chengdu.”

What is next for Terence Atmane?
As Atmane mentioned at the end of his social media message, he is next planning to head to Asia following the US Open.
The 23-year-old was entered into two Challenger tournaments in China, but he has since withdrawn, with Atmane looking to show he is not a one-tournament wonder.
Atmane’s next scheduled tournament is the ATP 250 event in Chengdu, that begins on September 15, suggesting that his injury is not too serious.
The Frenchman is actually not confirmed to be in the main draw yet, but as the first alternate is likely to make it there due to withdrawals.
Some of the other players entered into the Chengdu Open this year include Jack Draper, Lorenzo Musetti, Tallon Griekspoor and Brandon Nakashima.
