A tennis pundit made an interesting observation regarding what Jannik Sinner’s coach does during his matches.

Sinner has enjoyed an excellent 2024 season in which he won his first Grand Slam title and became the World number one.

He has established himself a top contender for each tournament he competes in and possesses some of the most dangerous groundstrokes in the game.

But despite his impressive year, the 22-year-old has one found thing particularly challenging at times and that’s staying fit.

What does Jannik Sinner’s coach do during his matches?

Jannik Sinner has suffered from multiple health and fitness issues this season. A hip problem forced Sinner to withdraw from the Madrid Open and he was unable to play in front of his home fans at the Italian Open.

Illness affected his Wimbledon quarter-final loss to Daniil Medvedev and a bout tonsilitis forced Sinner to withdraw from the Olympic Games.

A member of the Tennis Podcast believes that Sinner at times looks uncomfortable during his matches and seems to play through pain.

Following on from that, they elaborated on something they spotted from Sinner’s coach Daren Cahill when the Australian Open Champion is dealing with an injury on court.

“When I saw the clips of him trying to manipulate his hip and was referencing to his coach that there’s an issue, you never see Darren Cahill stand up and say well ‘if it’s a real problem go and stop’,” they said.

“You always see him stand up saying ‘come on mate come on kind of suck it up and get on with it’, I get a lot of that from Daren Cahill’s body language. When I look at the last 18 months I think we see that a lot from Daren Cahill.

“I think Sinner feels a lot out there and he cramps a lot. He’s often looking like there’s something wrong looking like there’s something wrong and I get the sense that Cahill’s just trying to stop him thinking about those things and get on with it.”

When did Darren Cahill begin coaching Jannik Sinner?

Cahill joined Sinner’s team in July 2022 and the Italian’s game has transformed under the 68-year-old’s watchful eye.

Sinner has won nine titles since the Australian became part of his team and he looks set to win many more, especially if he can manage his injuries.

“I’m extremely happy that I am in this position now,” Sinner said after winning the Australian Open in January.

“I have a great team behind me who knows what I have to do. With Darren, he has a lot of experience. He has been through this already a number of times.”

Cahill joined a team that already included Simone Vagnozzi, who began coaching Sinner after he cut ties with Riccardo Piatti.
