The French Open roars on, with fans of the competition coming into the spotlight as much of the players in Paris.

Novak Djokovic was the latest to address the fans at Roland Garros, thanking them for giving him energy during his late-night clash with Lorenzo Musetti.

On the other end of the spectrum, however, was David Goffin, with the Belgian accusing the fans of ‘total disrespect’ during his match against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.

Hubert Hurkacz is now the latest professional to come under fire from fans of the sport following his French Open exit.

The Pole fell in the fourth round at Roland Garros, losing 7-6 (5), 6-4, 7-6 (3) to Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.

Hubert Hurkacz asks Grigor Dimitrov for an umpire change

The former has, however, hit the headlines for reasons other than his exit, with Hurkacz asking his opponent if he wanted an umpire change during the match.

Unhappy with a number of decisions from Alison Hughes, Hurkacz signalled for an umpire change during a break in the game.

He then directly approached Dimitrov and asked the Bulgarian if he wanted to replace Hughes as the chair umpire.

Dimitrov was two sets ahead at the time of the discussion, before going on to secure the win and secure a quarter-final meeting with Jannik Sinner.

Tennis fans slam Hubert Hurkacz after his French Open behaviour

Somewhat unsurprisingly, Hurkacz has now come under fire from many tennis fans for his actions in Paris.

He took to social media to thank the fans following his exit, writing on X: “Highs and lows are part of the journey, as well as the passion and heat, but it’s all love and respect in the end.

“Grateful for such a fantastic support I felt from match to match. You guys are the best fans in the world! Focused on the future. See you soon!”

But not all fans were keen to reciprocate those emotions, with one user saying: “An apology for disrespecting the umpire (who was 100% correct in the call) wouldn’t go amiss.”

Another commented: “And what about your respect for the umpire?” with another saying: “What about apologies to the umpire?”

Another comment read: “So how about Alison Hughes, you owe her an apology. She is one of the most respected officials in our game, it was disappointing what you said on court even if it was a joke.”

Someone else commented: “We love you Hubi but you should really apologise to Ms Hughes for yesterday!”

Another fan noted: “Was expecting an apology to the umpire cos he was wrong.”
