Daniil Medvedev has reached his third consecutive Indian Wells semi-final after beating Arthur Fils.

Medvedev has been critical of Indian Wells for the pace of their courts over the years, despite it statistically being his second best performing Masters 1000 tournament.

It has been a tough period for the former world number one, with Medvedev titleless since 2023.

However, with Medvedev looking to make history at Indian Wells this year he appears to have returned to form.

Tennis fans love what Daniil Medvedev did after reaching Indian Wells semi-finals

Medvedev beat Frenchman Arthur Fils, 6-4 2-6 7-6(7), in a tightly-fought quarter-final match.

Despite the match having its moments of drama, what really caught fans attention was Medvedev’s celebration, as he jumped up and down with his hands in the air.

The former US Open champion was praised for this on X (formerly known as Twitter), with one social media user claiming that it was one of their favorite moments from Medvedev.

They said, “One of my all-time favourite Daniil Medvedev celebrations, pure unbridled joy, beautiful scenes.”

This sentiment was echoed by another person, “Agree I LOVE all his drama! It just shows how bad he loves the sport and how bad he wants to win!”

More social media users noticed how Medvedev quickly recomposed to shake the hand of his 20-year-old opponent, something that they appeared to find funny.

One person said, “The switch up to commiserate Arthur is… cinematic.”

Followed by, “God I love Meddy, celebrating fanatically one minute, like a footballer whose team has just advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals, and pulling himself together the next, composedly shaking hands like a typical tennis player.”

Another person added, “It’s the way he goes from that outta control celebration to cool calm and collected in a split second.”

A subsequent social media said, “I never saw Daniil celebrate that much, never! A joy to watch.”

What has Daniil Medvedev said about his celebration?

After the match in his post-match press conference, Medvedev was asked about what made him celebrate in this manor.

Medvedev explained his unique celebration by revealing that he could not control his emotions in the moment.

“If I would make a winner on match point, I would probably be less excited,” said Medvedev. “Because I was surprised, I thought the point is over and we go again, and he missed it. It happens. I was surprised, and that got my adrenaline too much. I couldn’t control it!”

The 29-year-old also admitted that he said sorry to Fils at the handshake, an apology that he appeared to accept.

“The adrenaline got me going. I jumped next to him. Then I was, like, ‘Sorry, man, I usually don’t celebrate like this,'” said Medvedev. “But it’s OK, it can happen.”

Medvedev may have more big celebrations coming up, as he bids to reach his third consecutive Indian Wells final when playing Holger Rune.
