Tennis fans are bitterly disappointed with the news that Jannik Sinner may miss Roland Garros.
The Italian has been enjoying a phenomenal 2024 season, which began on a 16-match win streak.
He has claimed the Australian, Rotterdam and Miami Open titles so far this year and is within striking distance of claiming the World Number One ranking for the first time.
But after a promising run to the semi-finals in Monte Carlo, Sinner’s European clay court season could be over, according to a rumour doing the rounds ahead of the French Open.
Jannik Sinner is rumoured to be missing Roland Garros
Sinner is certainly one of the favourites to claim his maiden French Open title in June, but his status for the tournament appears to be in jeopardy.
The 22-year-old is not playing in Rome due to a hip injury and according to Italian news outlet La Gazzetta, he has been advised by medical personnel to rest it for a prolonged period.
The reports adds that this is to avoid the problem becoming a chronic issue, and should he choose to rest, it will mean he skips the French Open which commences in under two week’s time.
After pulling out of the Madrid Open with the same injury, Sinner now has a difficult decision to make, which La Gazzetta says will be made later this week.
Tennis fans react to the Jannik Sinner Roland Garros rumour
After withdrawing from the Italian Open, Sinner wrote on social media platform X: “It is not easy to write this message but after speaking again with the doctors and specialists about my hip problems I have to announce that unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome.
“Obviously I’m very sad that I didn’t recover, it being one of my favourite tournaments ever. I couldn’t wait to come back and play at home in front of the Italian crowd.”
As if that was not bad enough, fans are now bitterly disappointed at the prospect of Sinner not competing in France.
X user @BlobBeans2117 said: “Here we go again! Too much tennis being played and not enough rest for players between tournaments.”
“If this is true. Poor Jannik. So many tennis players are having injuries right now,” user @Olivia270291 posted.
@yeojTO tweeted: “This is a bummer. I hope you’re ready and fit for Wimbledon, Jannik! Rest well. Forza!,” while @eustace_on23966 added: “Damn this is bad, get well soon Sinner.”

Who are the favourites to win Roland Garros?
Sinner is a favourite for the Roland Garros title but should he miss the Grand Slam, there are several other names in the running for the crown.
Carlos Alcaraz, who is also struggling with fitness after pulling out of the Italian Open due to an arm injury, is certainly a threat should he step on to the Parisian clay.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is looking strong in Rome and after winning another Monte Carlo title, he is primed for another run at the French Open, where he made the final in 2021.
Madrid Open champion Andrey Rublev has never been past the quarter-finals at majors but after a shock run to the title in the Spanish capital, he has an outside chance of claiming glory in Paris.
Furthermore, despite their lack of matches, World Number One and defending champion Novak Djokovic and 14-time winner Rafael Nadal, cannot be ruled out of making their way to the final and securing another major title.
Neither man has won a title in 2024, and Nadal has not competed at a Grand Slam in over a year, but if anyone can overcome those challenges, it’s two of tennis’ greatest ever players.
