Rafael Nadal has been in the news this week as he prepares to get back in the swing of things ahead of the Olympics, which are on the horizon.
Nadal chose to miss the grass-court season – including Wimbledon – to prepare properly to challenge for a gold medal at Roland Garros.
The 38-year-old is currently playing in the Swedish Open and after beating Leo Borg he faces a last 16 clash with Great Britain star Cameron Norrie.
Nadal is one of the game’s all-time greats and Roland Garros is a special venue for the Spaniard given that he’s won 14 French Open titles.
Given his fitness issues over the last few years, many had wondered what the future would hold for Nadal beyond the Olympics and now there is an update.

Rafael Nadal record at the US Open
The tournament which takes place at Flushing Meadows in New York holds positive memories for Nadal.
Nadal has won 85% of the matches he’s played at the US Open which is the second highest win ratio of all the four majors – behind the French Open.
The Spaniard has won the tournament four times. He beat Novak Djokovic in two finals, gazumped Kevin Anderson of South Africa in one and in 2019 he defeated Daniil Medvedev in five sets.
Nadal has reached one other final but was defeated by Djokovic in 2011 as he gained retribution for the previous year’s final.
The last time Nadal played in the tournament was in 2022 when he lost in the fourth round.
On that occasion, he lost in four sets to American player Frances Tiafoe and he didn’t feature in the tournament last year.
Nadal will know in his heart of hearts that he doesn’t have long left playing in grand slams and it will be fascinating to see how he can perform at the US Open this year.
