Andy Murray is set to play doubles alongside brother Jamie at Wimbledon and tennis fans couldn’t be more pleased.

On Thursday the star tennis siblings were handed a late wildcard to participate in the men’s doubles event at the grass court Grand Slam.

The 37-year-old is a legend at the All-England Club following his historic championship win in 2013 and his second triumph in 2016.

With Murray‘s glittering career seemingly coming to an end, there may be just one more appearance at SW19 left for former World number one.

Should he recover from back surgery in time, he will take to the doubles court alongside his elder brother for the first time at Wimbledon in what could be a fitting farewell for the double Olympic champion.

What have fans said about Andy and Jamie Murray playing doubles at Wimbledon?

The Murray siblings have played doubles at Wimbledon in the past alongside other players, with the 38-year-old winning the mixed doubles title on two occasions.

But stepping onto the hallowed turf alongside his brother Andy will live long in the memory not only for the sibling duo but their thousands of fans.

Many took to social media platform X to voice their views on the possibility of the pair playing doubles together at Wimbledon for the first and likely only time in their careers.

User @ShamiAshley wrote: “Love to see Andy and Jamie Murray getting on the tennis courts at SW19, brothers playing doubles together,” while @BreezyLynnLee said: “Can’t wait to cheer for @andy_murray & @jamie_murray In Wimbledon Doubles!”

“This will be fun. Looking forward to this duo!”, said @CatePoet, while @RealOddsMaster posted: “That’s some grand news! Andy and Jamie back at Wimbledon on a wildcard, can’t wait to see them in action.”

The excited @KarenWhite87422 said: “Fantastic news, can’t wait. Love these men,” alongside a love heart emoji. @BreezyLynnLee then added: “No matter HOW it came about, I’m thrilled! I’m excited to watch him in the doubles with @jamie_murray.”

Has Andy Murray played doubles at Wimbledon in the past?

Murray has competed in the men’s doubles event at Wimbledon on just two previous occasions.

The first came back in 2005 when he and David Sherwood lost in the first round. Murray was just 18 at the time.

14 years later he played alongside Pierre-Hugues Herbert, but the pair only made it as far as round two.

That same year Murray formed an all-star team with Serena Williams to compete in the mixed doubles competition.

They reached the third round where they were beaten by the top seeded team at the time, Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Bruno Soares.
