Taylor Fritz’s 2025 season came to an end after losing his third group stage match at the ATP Finals.
Fritz fell to Alex de Minaur in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3, with the Australian producing a defiant display of tennis to keep his campaign in Turin alive.
The American finished his run at the year-end tournament with a record of one win and two defeats, having picked up his sole victory against Lorenzo Musetti.

Against Carlos Alcaraz in his second match, he managed to take the first set, but the Spaniard fought back to seal the win.
His final loss to De Minaur saw the world number seven take a 6-5 lead in their head-to-head.
Taylor Fritz reacts to losing to Alex de Minaur at the ATP Finals
Fritz‘s meeting with De Minaur was their first of 2025, and the US star says he is not a fan of going toe-to-toe with his ATP Finals conqueror.
In his post-match press conference, Fritz said of De Minaur: “I think obviously the head-to-head is close, but he’s never been my favourite person to play because I think, one, he moves so well, but he doesn’t play very defensively against me.
Is Jannik Sinner currently the best player in the world?
“I watch him play other matches. Sometimes I feel like he is willing to rally, play a bit safer. I feel like he plays very, like, offensive against me.
“His ball stays very flat and low. It can sometimes be tough to attack off that ball if I’m not feeling great with my forehand.
“In the head-to-head, a lot of the time I’ve beaten him, I’ve felt good attacking. A lot of times that I’ve lost to him, I haven’t been able to just hit the forehand off that, like, flat, flat low ball that he hits well enough.
“He moves so well, but at the same time, I can’t just be steady because he also has the capabilities of being very aggressive, too, taking the ball early.”

Taylor Fritz’s wins against Alex de Minaur over the years
Fritz and De Minaur first clashed on the ATP Tour in the round robin of the Next Gen ATP Finals in 2018.
There, De Minaur got the win before overcoming Fritz in their next two bouts in Atlanta and Basel during the 2019 season.
In 2021 and 2022, Fritz earned a treble of consecutive victories in the rivalry at the US Open, Indian Wells and Eastbourne.
De Minaur emerged victorious in their only meeting in 2023 and won their round-robin match at the 2024 United Cup.
Prior to their Turin battle, Fritz had won their two most recent matchups, beating De Minaur at last year’s ATP Finals and at the 2024 Davis Cup.
