Taylor Fritz has now beaten both Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal after his latest win at the Laver Cup.

Fritz struggled with illness at the Davis Cup last week, and was looking to return to winning ways in another team competition at the Laver Cup.

The American had already lost one match in San Francisco, with Alcaraz and Jakub Mensik beating Fritz and Alex Michelsen in doubles.

Fritz had never beaten Alcaraz before, but produced a sensational performance to defeat the world number one for the first time.

Taylor Fritz ranks his win over Carlos Alcaraz at the Laver Cup

Despite his winless record against the Spaniard, Fritz has always believed he can beat Alcaraz and that became reality at the Laver Cup.

Fritz comfortably beat Alcaraz, 6-3 6-2, to secure two vital points for Team World and continue their fightback on day two.

In his post-match press conference after the match, Fritz was asked to compare his win against Alcaraz to his victory against Rafael Nadal in the Indian Wells final in 2022.

Despite Indian Wells being the biggest title of Fritz’s career so far, he claimed he actually took ‘more pride’ in his win over Alcaraz.

“Yeah, I mean, I think I take almost more pride in this one, because I feel like I — start to finish like I won it and I earned it,” said Fritz. “I didn’t really win any of the — I think a lot of the decisive points in the match weren’t so much off of, like, him giving it to me.

“I felt like I made it happen in those moments. I, yeah, just start to finish played an amazing match, and I went out and I took it.”

Taylor Fritz explains how he felt when Steph Curry and Roger Federer entered the stadium before his match

The Laver Cup has attracted some very high-profile names from both inside and outside of tennis in San Francisco this year.

Former world number one and 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer is the co-founder of the Laver Cup, and even retired in the event three years ago.

Federer has been at many of the matches this year, and entered the Chase Center alongside NBA star Steph Curry.

Fritz was asked about their attendance, and explained that it actually helped motivate him for the match.

“I mean, it’s pretty sick,” said Fritz. “It’s pretty hard to not be really just pumped up to play a match when that’s kind of like the intro to the match. You know what I mean? Definitely no shortage of just adrenaline for this one.”

Fritz will be hoping to continue both his and Team World’s momentum on the final day of the 2025 Laver Cup, where he is scheduled to take part in the final singles match against Alexander Zverev.

The outcome of the Laver Cup could already be decided by that point, as Team World need just two wins to secure victory over Team Europe.
