Taylor Fritz assesses whether indoor hard courts are Jannik Sinner’s best surface.
The World number five took on the two-time Grand Slam champion in the round robin stage of the ATP Finals.
In front of his home fans, Sinner defeated Fritz 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 40 minutes to stay unbeaten in Turin this year.
Sinner equalled Alexander Zverev with a tour-leading 67 wins in 2024, and is trying to end his season by securing an eighth title.

Jannik Sinner has enjoyed a spectacular 2024 season, and in particular on indoor hard courts.
His victory over Taylor Fritz was his seventh win on the surface in 2024 and he has yet to suffer a defeat.
Following his third successive loss to the World number one, Fritz commented on whether indoor hard courts are the surface that brings Sinner’s out best more than any other.
“I think that it makes sense that he is very good indoors because a lot of times the conditions indoors is a lot with baseline play,” he said. “There are no elements. There is no wind, so you can really just crush the ball and feel the ball well.
“I like to play indoors as well. When we played at the US Open it was windy and I felt like he played a much better match today and I did too. I felt in general the quality of the match was much higher.
“Yeah, I think it makes sense that indoors is a surface which suits his game a lot because of his ability to strike the ball from the baseline.”
Who will Taylor Fritz and Jannik Sinner play next?
Fritz’s ATP Finals campaign will continue against Alex de Minaur on Thursday.
The 27-year-old will need to defeat to put himself in a good position to qualify for the semi-finals in Turin.
Sinner on the other hand, will take on Daniil Medvedev in his final round robin match. Sinner will fancy his chances after winning seven of his last eight matches against the Russian.
After Medvedev defeated De Minaur on Tuesday, he needs to beat the World number one to give himself a chance of reaching the final four.
