American player Taylor Fritz has now delivered his verdict over whether or not Novak Djokovic will be fit to play at Wimbledon.

The Serbian player was watching his country in action at Euro 2024 last night but in terms of his own career, he’s hoping to make Wimbledon.

Djokovic pulled out at the quarter-final stage at the French Open earlier this month and now he’s trying desperately to get himself fit.

Fritz is a man who knows all about knee surgery and before Wimbledon in 2021, he underwent a similar procedure to that of Djokovic.

Now, he’s discussed whether or not he thinks he will be fit to make the tournament that gets started on Monday.

Taylor Fritz delivers verdict on Novak Djokovic injury

It would now appear as though Fritz is intrigued by Djokovic’s injury and the severity of it.

He doesn’t seem too concerned for the seven-time champion and believes that if he managed to recover just before Wimbledon, Djokovic should be able to as well.

The American performer told The Tennis Weekly Podcast: “You have full strength immediately. You never lost full strength it’s just about recovering from the actual surgery itself and not any muscular thing. I’m not surprised, I believe he got in to do a surgery but I think his recovery time, he has more time than I had.

“I know for a fact my first match at Wimbledon was exactly 20 days after my surgery. So, I played a little less than three weeks after my surgery. Basically, it’s three weeks. I think I saw something saying he’s on like day 19, 18 or 20 right about now, so also he’s going to have a whole extra week than I did, so you know I think it’s likely.

“It’s definitely not surprising that he’s at all that he’s able to lightly hit up the middle right now, like that’s not surprising at all.”

Djokovic won’t enter unless he feels he can win Wimbledon

This absolutely goes without saying.

You don’t win the number of titles that Djokovic has won and then simply enter a tournament merely to make the numbers up.

If Djokovic gives the green light for the Wimbledon organisers to include him in the draw, you can bet that he fancies winning an eighth title.

Fritz will have his own ambitions in mind for his Wimbledon campaign and he’s hoping to get beyond the quarter-final for the first time.

For Djokovic, however, there is only one thing that has mattered in his career and that is being crowned champion.

Now, his supporters will face an anxious wait to discover whether or not his body is up to the demands of playing at Wimbledon this year.
