Taylor Fritz names the current ATP player who he believes is the best he has ever played against

Taylor Fritz has played and beaten some of the greatest players on the ATP Tour en route to becoming world number four.

The American star enjoyed a breakout year in 2024, reaching two ‘big’ finals, at the US Open and ATP Finals.

Despite coming up short in both, Fritz reached a career-high ranking of fourth in the world.

In both the ATP Finals and the US Open final, Fritz lost to world number one Jannik Sinner, a player many consider to be the toughest challenge in tennis today.

However, when asked recently who the best player he’s ever played against was, Fritz named a different ATP star.

During an interview with TNT Sports on Instagram, Fritz was asked several quickfire questions, the first of which was which opponent was the toughest he’s played.

“Probably Novak [Djokovic],” he answered.

When looking at Fritz and Djokovic’s head-to-head record, it’s no surprise he answered as he did, having lost all ten of their ATP Tour meetings.

Just once has Fritz pushed Djokovic to a deciding set, at the Australian Open four years ago, when the injured Serb battled through to reach the fourth round.

Fritz also took the time to answer several other questions about tennis.

“Going to have to go with Tommy [Paul], because we have an Olympic medal,” said Fritz.

• Q – What’s the best title you’ve won?

“Indian Wells,” he said.

• Q – What is your favorite tournament on the calendar?

“Indian Wells,” he said.

• Q – Who is the female tennis G.O.A.T.?

“Serena [Williams],” said Fritz.

• Q – Who is the male tennis G.O.A.T.?

“Novak,” he said.

Taylor Fritz loses epic at Queen’s as his Wimbledon preparations take a hit

After losing in the first round of this year’s French Open, Fritz couldn’t wait to get off the clay and move onto grass.

Beginning his grass-court season in Stuttgart, the American eased into the final without dropping a set.

• 2025 Stuttgart Open QF – Taylor Fritz beat Marton Fucsovics, 6-3, 6-4
• 2025 Stuttgart Open 2R – Taylor Fritz beat Quentin Halys, 6-3, 7-6

There, Fritz beat home favorite Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6, to clinch the fourth grass-court title of his career.

Having won his first title of the season, many expected Fritz to make another deep run when he headed over to London for the Queen’s Club Championships.

Entering the tournament as the number three seed, Fritz came face to face with French qualifier Corentin Moutet in round one.

After three sets of gruelling action, Moutet emerged victorious, 6-7, 7-6, 7-5, knocking Fritz out of the competition.

While far from his best, it wasn’t a terrible performance by the world number four, who won the exact same number of points as his opponent (117).

Fritz will now turn his attention to the doubles tournament at Queen’s, where he and Jiri Lehecka will take on Alex de Minaur and Alexei Popyrin on Wednesday, June 18.

He is also scheduled to appear at next week’s Eastbourne International, an event he’s enjoyed real success at over the years.

The 27-year-old is the most successful player in the history of the event, having won the title on three occasions.

Searching for title number four in 2025, Fritz will have a great chance to get his Wimbledon preparations back on track.

The 2025 Eastbourne International is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 23.
