Taylor Fritz has struggled to get going on the ATP Tour this year after his impressive 2025 campaign.
Last season, Fritz claimed two ATP titles and reached the semifinals of the Wimbledon championships.
So far in 2026, the American has suffered a number of early exits at big tour-level events, having bowed out in the fourth round of the Australian Open, the third round of Indian Wells, and most recently, the fourth round of the Miami Open.

Fritz has been dealing with a knee injury in recent months, though the 28-year-old has not been forced to retire from a match yet this year.
Following his exit in Miami, he delivered a fitness update ahead of the clay season.

Speaking on the ‘Nothing Major‘ podcast, Fritz said of his knee: “I mean, it’s definitely getting better, you know. I think kind of comes and goes at different times with my knee. I’m still, you know, it’s still something I’m working on.
“It’s always going to be a long process to rehab it, regardless of if I was playing or not playing. It just takes time with tendonitis, so, you know, as I said, it comes and goes in Australia, you asked me in the first couple of rounds. I thought it felt incredible.
“And then kind of when I like, mid matched with Stan, and then the next the match I played against Musetti, like, it was it was really bad, and so I don’t know, it can feel great one day and then feel really awful the next day.

“Especially if I, like, get off the flight, play a long match, and there’s been times, like, it also felt amazing, you know. And sometimes it’s tough.
“I don’t know. Sometimes I’m like, maybe not necessarily in pain, but I feel like I’m moving awful, and it’s maybe because I’m, you know, I’m holding back on it, and I don’t want to land on it as hard, push off it as hard.
“So it’s tough for me to sometimes even tell myself if I’m compensating or if it’s okay, and it’s just yeah, it’s just a process, but it’s definitely improving.”
Taylor Fritz’s results in the Sunshine Double
Fritz kicked off the Sunshine Double with a hard-fought victory over Jacob Fearnley at the Indian Wells Open.
After coming through the test with the Briton in three sets, he was ultimately eliminated in the third round by compatriot Alex Michelsen.
In Miami, Fritz was tested in his opening match once again, having gone three sets with Botic van de Zandschulp.
He earned a straight-sets victory over Reilly Opelka in round three, but was then beaten by eventual finalist Jiri Lehecka in the fourth round.
Fritz will now prepare for the clay season, his least favourite surface in terms of results over the years.
