Taylor Fritz is among the American stars taking on the French Open, the second Grand Slam of the 2025 season.

Fritz is the fourth seed at the 2025 French Open, and opens his tournament in the first round against German Daniel Altmaier.

Carlos Alcaraz has been backed for French Open success, with the Spaniard entering the tournament as an ATP champion once more.

He won the Italian Open earlier this month, defeating top seed and home favourite Jannik Sinner in the final.

Fritz lost his opening match in Rome, with the fourth seed falling in the round of 64 to fellow American Marcos Giron.

He now turns his attention to the French Open, with Fritz having discussed a potential ATP and WTA change ahead of his opener at Roland Garros.

“I think all of the top 10 players, pretty much, on the men’s and the women’s side are all together on this and want to push for a better share of the revenue,” he said.

“I think the revenue percentage is off. It’s not about the outright number we are getting paid because slams are obviously our biggest pay day and the most we are getting paid but in terms of the players making the tournament happen and the percentage of revenue coming back to the players is very low for tennis and extremely low in comparison to other sports.

“I wouldn’t say that I am leading the charge or anything but I have been involved like everyone else has been.”

The top 20 ATP and WTA players want more Grand Slam prize money, but it remains to be seen if their demands will be met.

The leading stars clearly help draw in huge numbers to the many events across the men’s and women’s games, with the French Open set to follow suit.

It is a debate that could continue for some time, but Fritz cannot afford to let the off-court distraction impact his performance.

The 2024 US Open runner-up has managed to retain fourth spot in the world rankings despite his poor form of late, which continued at the Geneva Open.

Fritz took on the ATP 250 event after his exit at the Italian Open, but he fell at the quarter-final stage in Switzerland.

Hubert Hurkacz defeated the American, who will be disappointed with his run and could now be low on confidence heading into the French Open.

The 27-year-old won just one match at the tournament, defeating Quentin Halys in the Geneva Open round of 16.

It will likely have helped his clay court game before Roland Garros, but Fritz may now regret his decision after another underwhelming outing.
