‘Take this to the bank’… Andy Roddick drops ‘big prediction’ on what he thinks Naomi Osaka will do in 2024

Andy Roddick has been chatting about the future of Naomi Osaka on his podcast.

The 41-year-old was effusive in his praise for the former world number one, and even made a bold prediction for one thing she might do in 2024.

Given her fine form, even if she was just dumped out of Indian Wells, it is one which could come true.

What Andy Roddick said about Naomi Osaka

Speaking on the Served with Andy Roddick podcast, the host was keen to predict a bright 2024 for the Japanese tennis sensation.

In fact, he even made one bold claim, which he was unafraid to publicise.

The former world number one stated: ‘I’m going to tell you something right now, you guys can take this to the bank, my first big prediction because I hate prediction shows but… Naomi Osaka, from what I’ve seen, however Indian Wells shakes out, whether she wins or she loses, whatever happens, I’m telling you she’s going to win something big again.

‘She is striking the ball, she is getting into tennis shape, she seems motivated, she seems like… when she left the game and was having the mental issues that drove her away before she decided to have a child, she looked like it was tough to be out there, the paces were tough.

‘I’m telling you, Osaka is striking the ball. Still not perfect, still making some errors, is coming and going a little bit, but Naomi Osaka is going to win big again. That’s what I think.’

Naomi Osaka eased into 2024 well

Having made her long-awaited comeback in the Brisbane Open, preparing herself for an Australian Open in which she was overpowered by Caroline Garcia, since then the 26-year-old has only gone from strength to strength.

Recapturing her patented power that had fired her to two Grand Slam titles before her break from the sport, there were glimpses of her supremacy in both the Qatar Open and now Indian Wells.

It feels like as the year goes on and she gets more tennis under her belt, the better she is becoming.

Therefore, as we get deeper into the season, should she maintain this trajectory who knows how far she might go.

Roddick might have hit the nail on the head with this one, and the US Open could represent the perfect opportunity to mark her true comeback with one of the ultimate titles.
