Stefanos Tsitsipas confirms the shot he’s working on improving in training ahead of Indian Wells despite winning the Dubai Tennis Championships

Stefanos Tsitsipas ended his ATP 500 title drought at the Dubai Tennis Championships after beating Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Tsitsipas won the title in Dubai, having lost 11 previous finals at this level including two at this same tournament.

The Greek ending this unwanted streak was referenced to by Novak Djokovic, who congratulated Tsitsipas alongside numerous others.

It had been a tricky start to the season for the two-time Grand Slam finalist, with Tsitsipas making an equipment change to try and combat that.

This change appears to have made a big difference, with Felix Auger-Aliassime noticing something about Tsitsipas.

Tsitsipas is back into the top 10 as a result of his victory at the Dubai Tennis Championships, but the 26-year-old is not looking to rest on his laurels.

When speaking in his post-match press conference in Dubai, Tsitsipas explained how he particularly wanted to work on emphasizing his own service games.

“I’m looking forward to just constantly growing and getting better,” said Tsitsipas. “I feel like I’m playing well right now, but I feel like there are things I can improve definitely.

“There are things that I can focus on a little bit more, try to kind of break that sort of bit of a difference that could lead me to something better.

“I’m focusing right now, my eyes are on those small little detailed improvements I can make in my game, such like being able to find my spots better on my serve. This is something I definitely will be working on.

“One other thing that I just mentioned is making the opponent work harder to get to break point opportunities. These are the type of things that I want to reassess, I want to eye it as a target, and get better. Obviously not overnight, it’s going to take a while, but I’m committed to the process.”

Tsitsipas has admitted that he is wanting to improve his serve in the coming tournaments, but has already showed some signs of improvement.

Although he still faced an average of 5.6 break points per match, Tsitsipas defended an impressive 71% of those.

This includes saving all seven break points in the final against Auger-Aliassime.

Tsitsipas currently sits in 30th place on the ATP Tour for number of aces so far this year, with Auger-Aliassime leading the way after hitting 243 in his 21 matches.

Both players will now head to Indian Wells, that has changed its surface this year for the first time in 25 years.
