Stefanos Tsitsipas has suffered more disappointment after losing in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters.
Tsitsipas fell to his lowest ranking since 2018 after failing to defend his title at the Dubai Tennis Championships in February.
Despite his difficult start to the 2026 season, Tsitsipas is a three-time former champion at the Monte Carlo Masters and was looking to rediscover his form at his best performing tournament.
However, this did not come to fruition, as Tsitsipas lost in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters for the first time against Francisco Cerundolo.
Stefanos Tsitsipas loses in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters
Cerundolo beat Tsitsipas 7-5, 6-4, to cause the Greek to lose in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters for the first time.
Tsitsipas had reached at least the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Masters for five consecutive years until 2026, and he is now set to drop down the ranks.

Following his defeat to Cerundolo, Tsitsipas is confirmed to drop 190 points in the next ATP rankings update.
This means that Tsitsipas will drop outside the top 60 in the ATP rankings for the first time since April 2018.
Tsitsipas is now some way away from the player who reached a career-high ranking of world number three.

Tsitsipas has produced some of his best career results on clay, having won five titles on the surface and been one set away from winning Roland Garros in 2021.
The 27-year-old will look to rediscover his form on clay over a busy few weeks, with Tsitsipas entered into three tournaments ahead of Roland Garros.
