Stefanos Tsitsipas’ 2025 ATP season officially came to an end after he withdrew from the Hellenic Championship in Athens.
The Greek star was set to headline the new-look ATP 250 event alongside Novak Djokovic, but pulled out two days before the tournament was due to begin amid injury struggles.
Tsitsipas has been dealing with back pain this season, which saw him sidelined for both the Shanghai Masters and the ongoing Paris Masters.

He appeared at the Six Kings Slam exhibition in Saudi Arabia, but lasted just 76 minutes before being knocked out by Jannik Sinner in straight sets.
Now, having called his 2025 season to a halt by withdrawing from Athens, Tsitsipas may have just set himself up for a tricky start to 2026.
Stefanos Tsitsipas’ bad news ahead of the 2026 ATP season
This year, Tsitsipas’ ATP ranking has fallen as far as 34th in the world, the lowest he has been since the 2018 season.
Having started the year 11th, the 27-year-old had failed to defend a large number of points after several exits at tournaments where he had performed well the year prior.
- French Open: Reached the second round in 2025, quarterfinals in 2024
- Monte-Carlo: Quarterfinals in 2025, champion in 2024
- Barcelona: Quarterfinals in 2025, final in 2024
The Hellenic Championship marked an opportunity for Tsitsipas to finish the season strong and potentially claw back some points, but after withdrawing, he now faces bad news ahead of 2026.
Should he fail to go far in the early tournaments in 2026, or simply miss out on them completely, Tsitsipas will be in danger of being unseeded for the Australian Open.
The former Grand Slam finalist would be unseeded at a major for the first time since Roland Garros in 2018, where he went on to reach the second round.

Stefanos Tsitsipas’ sole title during the 2025 ATP season
Though he has recorded one of his worst seasons on the ATP Tour to date, Tsitsipas did manage to pick up a title this year.
He kept his eight-year-long streak of winning at least one title every season when he emerged victorious at the Dubai Tennis Championships.
| Year | Titles | Tournament(s) |
| 2025 | 1 | Dubai |
| 2024 | 1 | Monte-Carlo |
| 2023 | 1 | Los Cabos |
| 2022 | 2 | Mallorca, Monte-Carlo |
| 2021 | 2 | Lyon, Monte-Carlo |
| 2020 | 1 | Marseille |
| 2019 | 3 | ATP Finals, Estoril, Marseille |
| 2018 | 1 | Stockholm |
There, Tsitsipas beat several top stars, including Matteo Berrettini, Karen Khachanov and Felix Auger-Aliassime en route to hoisting the trophy.
From then on, however, his season fell apart, and now Tsitsipas could be in for a rough first month of 2026.
