Jaume Munar showed he belongs with the very best at this year’s Davis Cup Finals in Bologna.
Leading Team Spain in Carlos Alcaraz’s absence, Munar was competitive in all three singles matches he played.
Munar beat Jiri Lehecka in the quarterfinals and impressed in a 6-7, 6-7 defeat to Alexander Zverev in the semis.

Then, needing to beat Flavio Cobolli to keep Spain’s title hopes alive, Munar won the first set 6-1, but eventually fell short in three sets, 6-1, 6-7, 5-7.
Munar failed in his bid to bring home the title, but further established himself as one of the most entertaining players on the ATP Tour.
Who is the greatest male tennis player of all time?
As he reflects upon his 2025 campaign and looks ahead to the future, Munar has given his verdict on arguably the greatest player of all time, Novak Djokovic.
Jaume Munar says Novak Djokovic is ‘an absolute beast’
During an interview with ‘Radio MARCA Mallorca‘, Munar was asked if he could imagine playing late into his 30s like Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer.
“I do what I love, and the more years I can enjoy it, the better,” said Munar.
“If you ask me today, I think so.
“The thing is, we’ll see how my body holds up, how I am physically. But within my plans and my preparation, obviously, is enjoying many more years of tennis.
“It’s true that we see Djokovic, who’s 38, the guy’s still there. It’s true he’s no longer number one in the world, but I think he’s in the top 10 and he’s an absolute beast.”

Aged 38, Djokovic is still a top-five player on the ATP Tour.
2025 year-end top 10 rankings
| Rank | Name | Age | Country |
| 1 | Carlos Alcaraz | 22 | Spain |
| 2 | Jannik Sinner | 24 | Italy |
| 3 | Alexander Zverev | 28 | Germany |
| 4 | Novak Djokovic | 38 | Serbia |
| 5 | Felix Auger-Aliassime | 25 | Canada |
| 6 | Taylor Fritz | 28 | USA |
| 7 | Alex de Minaur | 26 | Australia |
| 8 | Lorenzo Musetti | 23 | Italy |
| 9 | Ben Shelton | 23 | USA |
| 10 | Jack Draper | 23 | Great Britain |
Djokovic has set the standard over the past few decades and is a 24-time Grand Slam champion.
Munar, the 2025 year-end world number 36, was asked whether he dreams of one day winning major titles like the Serb.
“That’s a long way off for me,” he admitted.
“I always say that you have to be, or at least that’s how I feel, realistic. As for ranking or results goals, I honestly set very few, if any, goals for myself.
“Now I don’t have such specific goals, but I do have dreams, many of them.
“Like I mentioned the other day in a social media post, one of them was to experience the Davis Cup, the way I did, and I’ve already achieved that.
Do you think the Davis Cup needs to make a change?
“Another one, for example, if you want to pick something for a headline, I’d love to win my first ATP title, but beyond that, I don’t set any numbers or rankings.
“I know the circuit is very competitive now, for better or for worse, that’s been proven, so I think talking about numbers or rankings would be very counterproductive.”
Munar has only played one tour-level final so far, losing to his Davis Cup teammate Pablo Carreno Busta at the Andalucia Open in 2021.

It remains to be seen if he can change that in 2026, but if he keeps improving, you wouldn’t want to bet against him…
How many places did Jaume Munar climb in the world rankings in 2025?
Munar had never finished a season ranked inside the world’s top 50 until 2025.
12 months ago, Munar was ranked 63rd, and has jumped 27 places this year.
Jaume Munar’s year-end rankings
- 2014 – 957th
- 2015 – 440th
- 2016 – 292nd
- 2017 – 184th

- 2021 – 77th
- 2022 – 58th
- 2023 – 86th

If he were to jump another 27 places next year, he’d find himself ranked inside the world’s top 10!
That may be a step too far, although the level Munar showed in Bologna was certainly top-10 worthy…
Only time will tell how Munar will perform next year, but it will certainly be worth keeping an eye on.
Munar will look to qualify for his first career Grand Slam quarterfinal when the 2026 Australian Open begins on Sunday, January 18.
