Sloane Stephens exited the French Open in one of the worst losses of her career at Grand Slams.

The American has previously reached the final of the major and is always a threat on the Parisian clay.

But the 30-year-old’s campaign in 2024 is over at the first hurdle after a disappointing loss to Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva.

This result means Stephens has achieved an unwanted statistic after crashing out of the season’s second major.

Stephens had the chance to gain some revenge on Putintseva after the 29-year-old knocked her out of the Italian Open.

But the former US Open champion was no match for her opponent on Tuesday as she claimed just three games in a 6-1, 6-2 defeat.

It took Putintseva just 55 minutes to defeat Stephens, who has failed to reach the second week of Roland Garros for just the second time since 2016.

The World number 35’s wait for a second major title continues as she lost to Putintseva for the fourth time in her career.
