Sky Sports pundit and former tennis player Naomi Broady shared her thoughts on who will be contending for the Roland Garros championship.

The WTA 1000 titles leading up the clay court major’s second slam have been completed and it is almost time to see who will master the Parisian clay in 2024.

Several players have raised their game in the buildup to the French Open, but two players currently stand head shoulders above the rest.

They are the WTA’s two top-ranked players and Broady expects them to contend for the title in Paris.

Naomi Broady predicts who will battle for the Roland Garros crown

Broady appeared on Sky Sports’ YouTube channel where she predicted the players likely to take home the French Open trophy.

It came as no surprise to hear her mention Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, who have been the standout players across the clay-court season.

Neither player claimed glory in Stuttgart but the pair produced a classic Madrid Open final, which Swiatek edged 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(7).

The Pole registered a more convincing win over the Belarusian in Rome, losing just five games. Given their journeys to the final and the levels they are pushing one another to, Broady expects the pair to do battle on the biggest stage in Paris.

“She (Swiatek) is very young, you forget how young she is, she’s so experienced now. On this surface (clay) she’s almost indestructible, unbeatable,” she said.

“Sabalenka pushed her so close in the Madrid final in one of the best women’s matches of the year, I’m not sure if we’ll see any better. I assume they might play again with the form that they’re both in but Swiatek you have to say is a firm favourite when you’re on the clay.”

What is the Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka head to head record?

Swiatek and Sabalenka have played one another 11 times throughout their careers.

Their first meeting came back at the 2021 WTA Finals, which the 26-year-old claimed in three sets.

Since then, the World Number One has claimed eight of the next 10 meetings, including an exciting US Open semi-final in 2022.

Sabalenka will be looking to turn the tables on her rival should they meet in Paris, but it will take a monumental effort to end Swiatek’s winning run at the Roland Garros, where she has not lost since 2021.
