The 2024 Shanghai Masters is a 12-day tournament with the top 96 singles and 32 doubles men’s tennis players striving to win the penultimate ATP Masters 1,000 tournament of the year. It is even one of the eight mandatory ATP Masters 1,000 events on the tennis schedule.
So, this year’s edition sees the likes of Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic compete to win the 13th edition of the Shanghai Masters. Djokovic is the, to date, most successful player at the Shanghai Masters with four titles in the Serbian’s record.
Sinner and Alcaraz, along with Daniil Medvedev, have also been drawn on the same half for the 2024 Shanghai Masters. The ATP World No1 Sinner and No3 Alcaraz may face off in the semi-finals, should the former come through a potential quarter-final with No5, Medvedev.
Zverev heads into the 2024 Shanghai Masters as the No2 seed, with Djokovic the No4 seed. They plus Sinner, Alcaraz and Medvedev will even start their runs at the tournament in the second round as all seeded players at the 2024 Shanghai Masters receive a first-round bye.

The 2024 Shanghai Masters officially starts on Wednesday, October 2 and runs until Sunday, October 13. But the tournament technically begins on Monday, September 30 with the final qualifying stage matches before the main draw then commences with all names confirmed.

The draw for the 2024 Shanghai Masters took place on Monday, September 30 at 10:30 CST (Sunday, September 29 22:30 EDT) to designate every spot at the ATP Masters 1,000 event.
Where will the 2024 Shanghai Masters take place?
Ever since the first Shanghai Masters event in 2009, the ATP Masters 1,000 tournament has taken place at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena. It is located in the Minhang District of Shanghai and was also purpose-built to stage the ATP World Tour Finals from 2005 to 2008.
It cost $200m to build the Qizhong Forest Sports City for which construction was completed in 2003. One of its many features is a retractable steel roof that takes eight minutes to open or close. It was China’s largest tennis venue until the Olympic Green Tennis Center in Beijing.

Who won last year’s men’s Shanghai Masters singles title?
Hubert Hurkacz won the second ATP Masters 1,000 title of his career at the 2023 Shanghai Masters after defeating Andrey Rublev in the final of the men’s singles tournament. The Pole took a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (10-8) win after saving a match point at 5-6 in their third-set tie-break.
Rublev had not dropped a single set all tournament before facing Hurkacz in the final of the 2023 Shanghai Masters in search of the Russian’s second ATP Masters 1,000 title. Hurkacz’s serve was particularly decisive by taking 21 aces and winning 57 of his 70 first-serve points.
What is the prize money for the 2024 Shanghai Masters?
The ATP Tour has confirmed that the 2024 Shanghai Masters will provide a total guaranteed prize purse of $10,298,535 for the 96 singles and 32 doubles players taking part. But of the total prize purse on offer at the event, $8,995,555 is designated only for the singles players.
