It’s quite remarkable, but Iga Swiatek is going into the French Open in 2025 outside of the world’s top four players for the first time in years.
Swiatek has won the last four Roland Garros crowns, yet her current form dictates that there are four players ahead of her in the WTA world rankings right now.
The 23-year-old is aiming for a fourth French Open title in succession in the coming weeks, having made it three in a row with victory last year.
It’s fair to say that her form is sketchy at best, however, with Danielle Collins dumping her out of the Italian Open at the last 32 stage last week.
Whilst many experts are pundits are dismissing Swiatek’s chances, a former coach of Serena Williams believes that she still has a golden chance to claim another title when the tournament gets underway.

Rick Macci thinks Iga Swiatek will win French Open if she adopts Jannik Sinner approach
Macci is never shy when it comes to offering his opinions on who he thinks is going to win things and also what they should be doing to improve.
It would seem as though he’s a big fan of Swiatek and he’s backing her to go and win the French Open after a series of posts on X campaigning her chances.
He said: “Iga controls Iga. She can take an epic page out of Sinner’s playbook as no matter what cards you are dealt and felt you’re totally in charge to stay positive and not melt.
“Iga will be seeded five at the French Open. Seeding does not matter. Seeding is a moment in time, what others think of you from what you have done in the past. If you live in the past, you get passed. What Iga thinks of Iga is the real seed that should be planted.
“My pick against all odds to win the French is Iga. Her game/career is at a dangerous crossroads as she has been so rock solid mentally and now there are cracks. Sometimes when you lose the big c and verbal darts begin to stack, it triggers your championship DNA to come back.”
Swiatek cannot be discounted for French Open title
Write off Iga Swiatek at your peril.
The Polish performer has been so dominant on this surface for three years that it’s impossible not to give her a chance of winning again this year.
Her form coming into Roland Garros is patchy at best but ultimately, as the saying goes, form is temporary and class is very much permanent.
Swiatek might be the number five seed going into this one, but as Macci quite really says, that doesn’t really carry much weight in the grand scheme of things.
The youngster can defeat anyone on her day and with the winning mentality she possesses, it’s impossible to truly write her off.
