Serena Williams is officially set to compete in singles at Wimbledon after receiving a wildcard for the event.

The 44-year-old legend, who retired initially in 2022, recently made her return to professional tennis in doubles, and has played two matches so far.

Williams received the last available Wimbledon wildcard in singles, having already received a doubles wildcard to play alongside her older sister, Venus.

Realistically, how far do you expect Serena Williams to go at Wimbledon if she plays?

A seven time champion at the All England Club, the American’s last appearance in singles came at the 2022 US Open.

But despite her age and lack of singles preparation, Williams’ former coach, Rick Macci, still thinks the 23-time major champion can do damage in the draw.

Rick Macci says Serena Williams will be competitive at Wimbledon

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Macci said: “Depending on her opponent, Serena will be very competitive and do damage against whoever is on the other side of the net.

“She is not in London for a cameo. She is all in and we will see 122 mph first serves all in.

“The Compton Comet is fired up armed and dangerous and it will be must see TV and will shatter all records.

“Centre court will be on fire as the goat will inspire. @serenawilliams.”

The Williams sisters moved from Compton, California to West Palm Beach, Florida at a young age to attend Macci’s academy.

How Serena Williams has done so far since returning to tennis

Williams played her first match back at the Queen’s Club championships partnered with 19-year-old star Victoria Mboko.

Together, the two defeated the duo of Erin Routliffe and Nicole Melichar-Martinez, who were seeded third.

Unfortunately, Mboko suffered a knee injury in singles at Queen’s, meaning she had to withdraw from her doubles campaign with Williams.

Williams found a new partner in the form of Karolina Muchova at the Berlin Open, but they lost in the first round.

Now, Serena and Venus will play doubles together for the first time since 2022 at the Wimbledon championships.
