Coco Gauff has been crowned the WTA Finals champion for the first time in her career.

The American star overcame Qinwen Zheng in Saudi Arabia to win the title and take something from 2024.

Gauff came from behind to defeat the Chinese star, coming through 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 to pick up the prize and the £3.7 million first prize.

At 20, Gauff is the youngest player to lift this title since Maria Sharapova achieved success 20 years ago!

She is the youngster player from the United States to take the prize since Serena Williams in 2001.

Gauff has salvaged something from 2024 by winning this event with the Grand Slam tournaments passing her by this season.

Now, the talented sensation will have a spring in her step going into 2025 and she will be hoping to make that a seriously memorable year.

Rick Macci makes Coco Gauff prediction for 2025

The man who coached Serena Williams for some of her career believes this win will do wonders for Gauff.

Two semi-finals in Australia and Paris were as good as it got for Gauff in 2024 when it came to the Grand Slam events.

However, this ensures that the year finishes with a flourish for the 2023 US Open winner and Macci has made a prediction about next year.

He said on X: “What I love about Coco Gauff game is she can and will improve a lot more as she already has the internal wiring of a champion and the blazing foot speed of a world class track athlete. Fasten WTA seat belt as a new sheriff is coming to town 2025.”

Critics should get off the back of Gauff – more majors will follow

Women’s tennis is probably as competitive now as it has been for many years with dozens of players capable of turning up to slams and winning them.

Gauff only has the one Grand Slam crown to date but at 20 there will definitely be more moments where she’s in the winner’s circle.

Critics sometimes demand to much – especially when it comes to sport in the United States – and that won’t help her.

Clearly, on her day, Gauff is an elite player and capable of winning every tournament that she participates in.

Macci could be right when he predicts that Gauff might dominate tennis in 2025.

Indeed, after this victory at the WTA Finals she will be bouncing going into the New Year and it’s exciting to see what she could achieve.
