Jannik Sinner’s semifinal match with Daniil Medvedev at the Italian Open was suspended on Friday night due to rain.
Sinner, in pursuit of a sixth consecutive ATP Masters 1000 title, was leading in the match, up 6-2, 5-7, 4-2.
The Italian got off to a hot start in the match and took the opener in dominant fashion, but Medvedev fought back and became the first player to take a set off him in Rome this year.
Jannik Sinner is now a bigger favorite to win Roland Garros than Rafael Nadal ever was

While the Russian was delivering some of his best tennis, it was clear Sinner was struggling physically as the match went on.
Ahead of the match resumption, Serena Williams’ former coach, Rick Macci, pinpointed exactly what went wrong for the world number one.

Rick Macci reacts after Jannik Sinner’s semifinal performance
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Macci said: “Do not read too much into the Meddy /Sinner match.
“Once Jannik tweaked the knee in the second, the quality of his shots went down microscopically, and his movement for the wide backhand was a few milliseconds late.
“These small razor-thin margins is why the Russian Spider had a little more time to drop and dictate.
Can any of these four players stop Jannik Sinner winning the French Open this year?
Is there anyone else you think could be a threat to Sinner?
“Then the points were longer, and then a mental/physical battle is out of the oven and on the table. @janniksin.”
In another post, Macci added: “Jannik will be fine. Elite players have many issues, and feeling sick is part of the journey when you’re the best with the stick.”

Casper Ruud’s record against Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev
The winner of the match between Sinner and Medvedev will take on Casper Ruud in the championship match.
Medvedev leads the head-to-head with Ruud, 3-1, but the Norwegian came out on top in their most recent bout, which was also their only ever meeting on clay.
After three straight losses to the former US Open champion, Ruud beat Medvedev at the 2025 Madrid Open en route to capturing the title.
Against Sinner, however, Ruud has had no joy whatsoever, having lost in each of their four tour-level meetings.
Ruud and Sinner had their first clash on clay at the Italian Open last year, and the latter dominated with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
