Sebastian Korda made his return to action at the Winston-Salem Open, one week before the US Open.
Having last been seen at the French Open in May, Korda made a triumphant return in North Carolina, winning his first-round match against Vit Kopriva in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Carrying that momentum forward, Korda took down Kamil Majchrzak and Miomir Kecmanovic, as he qualified for his second ATP semifinal of the season.

However, in a surprising move, Korda withdrew from the tournament before his semifinal match with Marton Fucsovics, as the Hungarian advanced to the final.
Following his withdrawal, Korda took to social media to issue a health update with the US Open just days away.
Sebastian Korda was feeling ‘under the weather’ before Winston-Salem Open withdrawal
The world number 86 explained why he withdrew from the Winston-Salem Open on X.
“Hi everyone, woke up a bit under the weather and thought it was going to be difficult to play today,” he said.
“Been a long three months recovering and want to stay on track.
“Thanks for all the support and love.”
During the clay-court season, Korda suffered a stress fracture in his shin, which saw him miss Wimbledon and the two hard-court Masters 1000 events in Toronto and Cincinnati.

Having missed as much tennis as he has, it’s no surprise Korda decided to err on the side of caution and withdraw from the event.
After all, his home Grand Slam is right around the corner…
Sebastian Korda’s US Open draw
First up for Korda in New York is Britain’s Cameron Norrie, the world number 36.
The pair have met four times previously, as Korda leads the head-to-head 3-1.
| Match | Winner | Loser | Score |
| 2023 Queen’s – QF | Sebastian Korda | Cameron Norrie | 6-4, 7-6 |
| 2022 Delray Beach – QF | Cameron Norrie | Sebastian Korda | 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 |
| 2022 Australian Open – 1R | Sebastian Korda | Cameron Norrie | 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 |
| 2021 Delray Beach – SF | Sebastian Korda | Cameron Norrie | 6-3, 7-5 |
Despite his recent injury struggles and Norrie’s ATP Tour resurgence, Korda will likely be the favorite to advance to round two.
Things will only get more difficult from then on, with 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic lurking in Korda’s section of the draw.
Sebastian Korda’s route to the US Open title (By ranking)
- 1R v Cameron Norrie
- 2R v [28] Alex Michelsen
- 3R v [7] Novak Djokovic
- 4R v [11] Holger Rune
- QF v [4] Taylor Fritz
- SF v [2] Carlos Alcaraz
- F v [1] Jannik Sinner
He’ll need to be at his very best to make it that far, however, as Korda has yet to reach the US Open third round in five attempts.
Heading into 2025 with a 2-5 record at the US Open, expectations aren’t too high for the American at Flushing Meadows.
Whether he can improve that record remains to be seen, although for his sake, you’d hope he will, given he withdrew from the Winston-Salem Open semis to aid his recovery.
Who will play the Winston-Salem Open final?
When Korda withdrew from the ATP 250 Winston-Salem Open, Fucsovics advanced to his first final of the year.
Standing between Fucsovics and the title is Dutch player Botic van de Zandschulp, who made headlines at the US Open 12 months ago by knocking out Carlos Alcaraz.
The 29-year-old, who has yet to win a tour-level title, was made to work hard for his place in the final, battling through three deciding sets en route to the championship match.
- 2025 Winston-Salem Open 1R – Botic van de Zandschulp beat Adam Walton, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3
- 2025 Winston-Salem Open 2R – Botic van de Zandschulp beat Matteo Arnaldi, 6-3, 6-3
- 2025 Winston-Salem Open 3R – Botic van de Zandschulp beat Sebastian Baez, 0-6, 6-1, 6-4
- 2025 Winston-Salem Open QF – Botic van de Zandschulp beat Yunchaokete Bu, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3
- 2025 Winston-Salem Open SF – Botic van de Zandschulp beat Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, 6-4, 7-5
Having lost his first two ATP finals to Holger Rune, Van de Zandschulp will have a chance to finally get his hands on a trophy when he takes on Fucsovics at the Winston-Salem Open.

Van de Zandschulp leads the head-to-head with Fucsovics 2-1, beating him at the 2021 Stockholm Open and 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters.
He’d love nothing more than to pick up his third win over Fucsovics on Saturday, August 23, and clinch his maiden ATP title in the process.
