Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz were a class above on the ATP Tour in 2025.

The Italian and Spaniard dominated men’s tennis just as they did in 2024, sharing the four Grand Slams.

Sinner won the Australian Open and Wimbledon, while Alcaraz won the French Open and US Open.

Returning to the top spot in New York, Alcaraz finished 2025 as the world number one, although Sinner isn’t far behind heading into the new year.

The pair have put some real distance between themselves and the chasing pack this year, but what sets them apart from the rest of the ATP Tour?

During the latest episode of ‘Nothing Major‘, Sam Querrey, Steve Johnson, and John Isner shared their thoughts.

Former Wimbledon semifinalist Querrey has been impressed by the way Alcaraz and Sinner get on with their business.

“[Jannik] Sinner and [Carlos] Alcaraz specifically, they never complain about anything,” he said.

“You never hear them go, ‘The court speeds were slower or faster today, I don’t like these balls’. But a lot of times, the rest of the field, you hear little chirpings.

“Those two specifically, just like Rafa [Nadal], not a peep of complaining, it feels like.

“I feel like that’s another semi-superpower.”

While Querrey compared Alcaraz and Sinner to one tennis legend, Isner compared them to another.

“I don’t think it’s infrequent at all [that Alcaraz/Sinner have ‘bad days’],” said Isner.

“I think what the greats do, a Sinner, an Alcaraz, a Novak [Djokovic], their movement isn’t going to let them down.

“So they’ll just lock you down that way.

“If they’re not feeling the ball that well, they just make more balls than you, that’s what they do, that’s their special power, their movement, and the way they make you go for too much.

“If they’re not feeling so confident to shoot for the lines.”

Former world number 21 Johnson was also keen to weigh in.

“These guys, that’s what makes them the best players in the world. If you’re playing well, it’s pretty easy to win against 90% of the guys. Those guys don’t play well; they win 95% of those matches,” he said.

“Think about all the matches we didn’t play that well, lost a lot of those, these guys just find a way to win, that’s what makes them better.

“When they can win on their days when they don’t feel well.”

Alcaraz and Sinner certainly did their fair share of winning in 2025, as they picked up more titles than anyone else in men’s tennis.

Alcaraz won more titles than his Italian rival in 2025, although the story may have been different had Sinner not served his three-month suspension…

Alcaraz won two titles: the Rotterdam Open and the Monte-Carlo Masters, while Sinner was suspended.

It’s tough to predict how many titles Sinner will win next year, but if his end-of-season form is anything to go by, then he could be headed for double digits…

Over the course of 52 days, Sinner won the China Open, Vienna Open, Paris Masters, and ATP Finals.

He lost just one match during that period, to Tallon Griekspoor at the Shanghai Masters due to cramps.

Only time will tell who will top the title leaderboard in 2026, but you certainly won’t want to miss any of the action.

Sinner and Alcaraz will both look to get off the mark at the Australian Open, which begins on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
