Sam Querrey was not present at this year’s Olympic Games, but that didn’t stop him from watching on as Novak Djokovic made history.
Djokovic clinched the Olympic gold medal after defeating Carlos Alcaraz in an epic final that was an advert for the modern game.
It capped the 37-year-old’s hunt for triumph at the Olympics in which he was successful at the fifth and likely final attempt.
Chris Evert paid tribute to Djokovic’s efforts upon the conclusion of the gripping final that was won in two tiebreak sets, 7-6(3) 7-6(2).
Although she was merely one of a catalog of stars who have shared their views on the Serb’s success.

Former American number one Sam Querrey was among the countless ex-players who have expressed delight with seeing Novak Djokovic finally clinch that elusive gold medal.
During his time on the ATP Tour, Querrey registered a dismal 2-9 win-loss record against the 24-time major champion.
But while Djokovic claimed the missing piece in his glittering collection in Paris, the American watched on in awe.
“This one meant the most to Djokovic,” Querrey said on the ‘Nothing Major’ podcast.
“I didn’t cry when I got married or had my kids, but I was on the sofa the other day watching this with my wife. I wiped away a tiny tear watching Novak, and my wife was crying too.
“I’m dead serious. In the last 15 years, I can’t think of a time [that I cried].”
What next for Djokovic?
After adding an Olympic gold to his cabinet, Djokovic has essentially won all there is to be won in the sport of tennis.
Having surpassed great rivals Rafael Nadal (22) and Roger Federer (20) with 24 major titles, he sits atop the men’s standings.
However, he will be keen to try and pull ahead of Margaret Court, the formidable Australian female player with whom he is tied.
This seems like the only possible accomplishment that can keep Djokovic hungry for more, and it could be achieved at this month’s US Open.
