Amanda Anisimova enjoyed the best year of her career in 2025…
The American number two reached two Grand Slam finals last year, at Wimbledon and the US Open.
Despite coming up short on both occasions, Anisimova announced herself as a real contender in the women’s game.
Who is the greatest women’s tennis player of all time?
Heading into 2026, many believe Anisimova has what it takes to win her maiden Grand Slam title.
Appearing as a guest on ‘The Tennis Worthy Podcast‘, former American ATP star Sam Querrey previewed Anisimova’s 2026 season.
Sam Querrey thinks Amanda Anisimova can win Grand Slams and become world number one in 2026
“Part of me thinks Amanda [Anisimova] could finish the year ranked number one in the world,” said Querrey.
Anisimova is currently ranked fourth in the world, behind Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, and Aryna Sabalenka.
WTA Top 10
| Rank | Name | Country | Points |
| 1 | Aryna Sabalenka | Belarus | 10,990 |
| 2 | Iga Swiatek | Poland | 8,328 |
| 3 | Coco Gauff | USA | 6,423 |
| 4 | Amanda Anisimova | USA | 6,320 |
| 5 | Elena Rybakina | Kazakhstan | 5,850 |
| 6 | Jessica Pegula | USA | 5,453 |
| 7 | Jasmine Paolini | Italy | 4,267 |
| 8 | Mirra Andreeva | Russia | 4,232 |
| 9 | Madison Keys | USA | 4,003 |
| 10 | Belinda Bencic | Switzerland | 3,512 |
She trails world number one Sabalenka by over 4,000 points, although that gap could close with a strong performance Down Under.
Patrick McEnroe and Querrey both believe she can win a Grand Slam this year.
“I think she wins a major this year,” said McEnroe.
“I think she does too,” said Querrey.

“Losing 6-0, 6-0, to [Iga] Swiatek at Wimbledon, then coming back at the US Open, that shows so much.
“Her ball striking it’s similar to [Aryna] Sabalenka, especially when she’s playing in perfect conditions, when it’s indoor, which sometimes in Australia they close that roof.
“She can absolutely thump that ball as hard as anyone I’ve ever seen.
“I think she gets a major this year and challenges Sabalenka and Swiatek for that number one ranking as well.”
She’ll look to extend her streak of major final appearances at the upcoming Australian Open.
Who will win the 2026 Australian Open?
But how has she performed Down Under so far in her tennis career?

Amanda Anisimova misses out on $1 million
Looking to pocket $1 million before the Australian Open, Anisimova took part in the ‘One Point Slam’, an event featuring men, women, pros, and amateurs.
Given a BYE into the second round, Anisimova benefited from an Arthur Rinderknech double fault, sealing her spot in round three.
She then caused a big upset, knocking out three-time Australian Open finalist Daniil Medvedev.

Unfortunately for Anisimova, it was in the quarterfinals that her run came to an end, losing to amateur Jordan Smith.
Smith eventually took home the prize, defeating Joanna Garland of Taiwan.
