Sam Querrey made his prediction for the Wimbledon semi-final between Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev.

The players will do battle at SW19 in a rematch from their contest at last year’s edition of the grass court Grand Slam.

Both players have overcome some adversity to reach this stage of the tournament and are now just three sets away from competing in Sunday’s championship match.

The winner will face either seven-time champion Novak Djokovic or first time Grand Slam semi-finalist Lorenzo Musetti.

Sam Querrey previews Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev’s Wimbledon semi-final

On the latest episode of the French Connection Podcast, Querrey, a former Wimbledon semi-finalist in his own right, discussed the blockbuster match between two of the world’s best players.

The former World number 11 found it difficult to predict a winner given the players’ path through to the final, but expects it to be a tough match for both competitors.

“I feel like this is a 50/50,” the former player said. “Alcaraz has been playing well, but lost early in Queen’s, he beat Frances in five. He has lost a couple of other sets in the tournament. He hasn’t been cruising all the way to the semi-finals. He beat Tommy Paul in four sets.

“And Medvedev came out of the quarter of fire, with all the best players. He is going to be feeling good. I feel like this is a 50/50 match. I personally want Carlos to win, just because I like watching him play a bit more.

“But Medvedev is such a tough out. He just plants himself ten feet behind the baseline and says ‘I will be here for the next 10 hours making backhand after backhand and forehand after forehand’. I expect it to be a good match, 50/50 in my eyes.”

What is Carlos Alcaraz’s head to head record against Daniil Medvedev?

Alcaraz and Medvedev have played one another six times on the ATP Tour.

The Spaniard has won four of these matchups, including their most recent contest in the final of Indian Wells in March.

The Russian has claimed two of their three Grand Slam matches, which took place at Wimbledon 2021 and the US Open 2023 semi-final, while Alcaraz won their last four matchup at the All-England Club that same year.

Previewing his upcoming contest, Alcaraz said: “He’s a really great player. The same semi-final as last year and hopefully I’m going to get the same result. He just beat Jannik Sinner, the best player right now, so I know he is in really good shape.

“I have to play my best, I have to believe in myself and try to keep going if I want to beat him. It is going to be a difficult one, but I’m going to enjoy it.”
