After watching her French open success Sam Querrey labelled Coco Gauff as the best doubles player on the WTA Tour.

At the third time of asking, the 20-year-old claimed the first Grand Slam doubles title of her career with a 7-6, 6-3 win alongside Kateřina Siniaková.

They defeated the Italian pair of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, who also tasted defeat in the Roland Garros singles final to Iga Swiatek.

After losing to the Pole in the semi-finals of the singles event, Gauff still completed her 2024 French Open campaign with success.

What did Sam Querrey say about Coco Gauff after her French Open doubles success?

Gauff decided to team with Siniaková, who already won seven Grand Slam doubles titles, just two days before the competition was due to begin.

Despite their lack of playing time they stormed through the field, dropping just one set on the way to the title.

Gauff has consistently played doubles as well as singles for several years now and has now added a major doubles crown to titles she won alongside Jessica Pegula, with whom she reached World number one in doubles, and Caty McNally.

During the latest episode of French Connection Podcast, Querrey has seen enough from Gauff to suggest she is the best doubles player on tour.

“In my opinion Coco’s been the best doubles player the last three years,” the former World number 11 said. “I think Coco has a little bit of that kind of aura around her on the doubles court, I think a lot of the girls if you asked they would say Coco is the best doubles player she’s got incredible results with everyone she plays with.”

Sam Querrey thinks Coco Gauff’s doubles success can help her in singles competition

Following Sunday’s success Gauff became the youngest player since Svetlana Kuznetsova to win a Grand Slam in both singles and doubles.

The 20-year-old came from behind to defeat Ayrna Sabalenka in three sets to win the 2023 US Open and Querrey her doubles success in Paris will spur on to more solo victories at majors.

“I think if you win a Grand Slam in doubles it’s just going to help your confidence on the singles court,” the American added.

“Hopefully this can kind of boost her even more when she plays an Iga [Swiatek] or Sabalenka in those matches. Hopefully she can gain a little confidence from these doubles wins.”
