History will be on the line this Sunday as Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz get set to face off in the Australian Open men’s singles final.

Alcaraz is chasing a Career Grand Slam at Melbourne Park, with the Spaniard bidding to become the youngest player in the Open Era to win each of the four majors at least once.

Djokovic, on the other hand, is seeking to clinch his 25th Grand Slam trophy, which would see him surpass Margaret Court to become the all-time outright leader.

Both stars booked their place in the championship match after coming through tough five-set bouts in the semifinals.

Alcaraz defeated Zverev in a five-hour and 27-minute marathon, while Djokovic overcame last year’s Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner in four hours and nine minutes.

Where does that performance rank out of Novak Djokovic’s best of all time?

Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson preview the Australian Open final

The two will meet for the 10th time at tour level when they clash in the title bout, with Djokovic leading the head-to-head 5-4.

They last played each other in the semifinals of the 2025 US Open, where Alcaraz emerged victorious in straight sets.

Previewing the final on the Nothing Major podcast, former American players Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson agreed that Alcaraz will make it two in a row.

“I think Carlos,” said Querrey. “But I don’t feel [comfortable] saying it. After what I saw from Novak, I am excited.”

Johnson added: “We get something different. I think it’s good to see something different. I love watching the Sinner vs Carlos finals, but it’s nice to have something different.”

Serena Williams’ former coach says Novak Djokovic ended the GOAT debate

The debate around who the greatest tennis player of all time is has raged on for years, but Serena Williams’ former coach Rick Macci thinks Djokovic may have just put it to bed.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Macci said: “Novak just ended the debate if there was any who is the GOAT (greatest of all time).

“The Serbian Sniper cleans the court like the ultimate windshield wiper, and this guy made of rubber they call the Joker is the best ever stroker.”

Djokovic has the most major titles of any man in tennis history, with 24, a tally greater than his longtime rivals Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, who claimed 22 and 20, respectively.
