The ATP and WTA tours are now busy with clay-court action, with the former now approaching the final of the Monte Carlo Masters.

Carlos Alcaraz could fly on clay in 2025, which represents the first such season since 2002 without Rafael Nadal.

Nadal garnered the King of Clay nickname for his feats on the surface, which included a record 14 French Open titles.

Holger Rune says Alcaraz is the top clay player at this moment in time, with the Spaniard now into the final of the Monte Carlo Masters.

The ATP Masters 1000 tournament is part of the build-up to the French Open, although such events in Madrid and Rome also arrive before Roland Garros.

Sam Querrey and Jack Sock choose which American city they want to have a tennis tournament

John Isner thinks the WTA would love a Monte Carlo event, with a handful of his fellow former professionals now sharing verdicts on which American city they want to host an ATP tournament.

Sam Querrey, Steve Johnson and Jack Sock all made their choices on the Nothing Major Show, having agreed that they weren’t allowed to say Charleston.

“I would want one in a small city, because sometimes the whole city gets around it,” said Querrey. “So somewhere like Portland, Maine. Or didn’t there used to be one in Vermont back in the day which I think was cool?”

Johnson commented: “I want it in the South Western avenue of the United States in a Scottsdale. Big tennis community, great golf around there. You always have to think of what is around the tournament.”

And Sock said: “I have a bias and non bias. I actually think weirdly Kansas City, there is a lot of tennis and sports are incredible here.

“They had World TeamTennis here, that thing where it’s a summer event or Colorado, somewhere cool with sick scenery and where it’s perfect out during the summer would be really cool.”

America already plays host to long-running ATP and WTA player favourite

Charleston does, of course, already boast an event, with the WTA 500 tournament having just concluded there.

Dominated by home talent, new WTA number three Jessica Pegula beat fellow American Sofia Kenin in the Charleston Open final earlier this month.

Along with the US Open at the end of the Grand Slam season, America already plays host to the likes of the Miami Open, Dallas Open and Delray Beach Open among other events.

It also boasts the long-running favourite competition in the calendar, with Indian Wells last year voted by players as the top ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 Tournament of the Year for the tenth successive year.
