On a day completely ravaged by the weather, leading to mass cancellations we still got to enjoy some star-studded action at Roland Garros, and will hope for more of the same today.

Although, once again rain is expected to stunt the action, in the same way that it did in matches including Ben Shelton, Hubert Hurkacz and Marketa Vondrousova.

Fortunately, we had the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Ons Jabeur and Carlos Alcaraz to keep us occupied, until Iga Świątek and Naomi Osaka arrived for the show-stopping finale to day four.

Hopefully, with the French Open draw now thinning out, we can have much of the same high-octane action again today.

Key storylines to follow on day five of Roland Garros 2024

Naturally, Novak Djokovic’s presence today will dominate interest, although he is expected to score a rather simple victory over Roberto Carballés Baena.

Elsewhere, a tough battle is assured between Tommy Paul and Fabio Fognini, with the latter having built up a reputation for controversy that could frustrate the 27-year-old.

The former will also get to see his compatriot Taylor Fritz compete, and these are just two of the remaining six Americans left in the men’s side of the draw.

Alexander Zverev also returns to action after beating Rafael Nadal in the first round.

On the women’s side, the match between Viktoria Azarenka and Mirra Andreeva promises to be an interesting one, with the 17-year-old having destroyed Emina Bektas in the first round.

Given the 34-year-old is a former semi-finalist at Roland Garros, it could prove to be a real upset, should her teenage opponent spring a surprise victory.

Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina will both be hoping to follow in Swiatek’s footsteps by cruising into the next round.

The match between Elina Svitolina and Diane Parry will likely draw intrigue from the home crowd, given the latter is one of just three French players left in the women’s draw.

It is worth noting that these fixtures could all be subject to change as the organisers seek to tackle the weather once again and rearrange those matches that were failed to be completed yesterday.
