It was Carlos Alcaraz’s day on Arthur Ashe Stadium, picking up his second US Open title.
Three years after his first final, where Alcaraz beat Casper Ruud in four sets, the Spaniard returned to the championship match at Flushing Meadows.
Standing between Alcaraz and the title was the world number one and defending champion, Jannik Sinner.
In a US Open final filled with quality, it was the 22-year-old who played the best tennis, producing a simply remarkable serving performance.

After four sets of thrilling action, Alcaraz secured the win over Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, taking his Grand Slam tally to six.
Reacting to Alcaraz’s US Open win, tennis legend Rod Laver took to X, where he asked a very interesting question…
Rod Laver wants to know if anyone can stop Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner
The 87-year-old was quick to praise Alcaraz, who picked up his second Grand Slam of the year in New York.
“Congratulations to US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz, who would not be denied today in his enthralling rivalry with Sinner.
“Clocking up the majors – who can stop these two?
“Next stop, Laver Cup – I cannot wait.”

Laver wants to know who can stop Alcaraz and Sinner, but the reality is that maybe no one can.
The pair have shared the previous eight Grand Slams between themselves, and are currently ranked number one and two in the world, with a 4,000+ point gap to world number three Alexander Zverev.

At points throughout the year, it looked as though the likes of Jack Draper and Ben Shelton could pose a challenge to Alcaraz and Sinner, but the gulf in quality remains too large for them to overcome.
Whether they can make another step forward in 2026 remains to be seen, although it certainly feels like we will be watching Alcaraz and Sinner rack up the Grand Slams for the foreseeable future.
Billie Jean King congratulates Carlos Alcaraz on US Open win
Laver wasn’t the only tennis legend to comment on Alcaraz’s win, as Billie Jean King shared her thoughts as well.
“Cheers to Carlos Alcaraz, who has captured the US Open men’s singles title for the second time,” she said.
Winning in 2025, Alcaraz became just the fourth player this century to win multiple titles at Flushing Meadows.
ATP Players to have won multiple US Open titles since 2000
- Roger Federer – 5 (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008)
- Novak Djokovic – 4 (2011, 2015, 2018, 2023)
- Rafael Nadal – 4 (2010, 2013, 2017, 2019)
- Carlos Alcaraz – 2 (2022, 2025)
Joining the ‘big three’ of Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal, Alcaraz continues to write his name in the history books.

When he returns to New York in 2026, he’ll look to become the first player since Federer in 07/08 to defend the US Open title.
The 2026 US Open is scheduled to begin on August 31, 2026.
