Tennis legend Rod Laver was in attendance as Team World defeated Team Europe in the latest edition of the Laver Cup.

Laver is an 11-time Grand Slam champion, but he has since passed the baton on to the following generations.

And the current generation certainly didn’t let him down, playing out a fantastic Laver Cup battle in San Francisco.

Carlos Alcaraz shone at the Laver Cup, but so did Alex de Minaur and Taylor Fritz, who helped fire their side to the title.

Fritz had a hugely significant Laver Cup, playing a key role as Andre Agassi lifted the trophy on his debut as captain.

Agassi took over from John McEnroe in the role, while Yannick Noah replaced Bjorn Borg as Team Europe captain.

The former had Pat Rafter with him as vice captain at the Chase Center, while the latter worked alongside Tim Henman.

But what didn’t change was Laver’s affinity with the tournament, with the legendary figure now sharing his verdict on proceedings in California.

He posted on X: “Congratulations Team World on another Laver Cup victory. That was epic. Thank you San Francisco, it was a wonderful week.”

How did Team World win the 2025 Laver Cup against Team Europe?

Team World had revenge on their mind following the 2024 Laver Cup in Berlin, where Europe claimed a 13-11 win.

It represented their fifth title since the inauguration of the tournament in 2017, while Team World had only previously clinched two victories.

And it looked like history would repeat itself in San Francisco, with the visitors taking a 3-1 lead after day one.

But Team World completely turned the event on its head on day two, winning all four matches to take a 9-3 lead.

And that proved too difficult for Noah and his players to overcome, as Agassi ultimately guided his side to a 15-9 victory after three days of entertaining action.

The regular ATP season now returns, but Laver Cup eyes will already be turning to next year’s event at The O2 Arena in London, host of the 2022 edition.
