Andy Murray began his coaching career in 2025, but failed to win a title with his first client.

Ahead of the 2025 season, Murray joined Novak Djokovic’s coaching team as the Serb looked to win his 25th Major title.

After failing to do so in Melbourne and following two poor performances on clay, Djokovic and Murray parted ways after just five months together.

He could make a swift return to coaching with another tennis star, according to WTA legend Rennae Stubbs.

Stubbs believes Murray would be the perfect candidate to propel the top-ranked American to Grand Slam success.

Rennae Stubbs believes Taylor Fritz should split with Michael Russell and hire Andy Murray

World number four Taylor Fritz lost his opening match at the French Open to Daniel Altmaier, 5-7, 6-3, 3-6, 1-6.

Reacting to the American’s shock defeat, Stubbs gave her verdict on Fritz, suggesting it could be time for him to replace his current coach.

“At some point, I do feel, and this is nothing against Mike Russell, who I think has done an amazing job with Taylor [Fritz], but I think there is a point where you have run your race with them,” she said.

“You have got to the end of the line, and you have to let the rope go. I think maybe he needs a new voice in his ear. Maybe Andy Murray?

“I think Taylor needs to take the next step, I do think that he wants to take it.

“He has got to four in the world and a Grand Slam final thanks to Mike Russell and the work he has done, and I know Paul Annacone is still part of it, but I do think it’s maybe time for him to have somebody to give him a new voice and perspective on how to get to the end of a Grand Slam and how to win it.”

Stubbs believes Fritz has the potential to win a Grand Slam, but may need a new coach to help him unlock that potential.

“I do think he has the capability of doing that. I do think he needs to improve his volleys if he wants to win a Grand Slam. I will believe that until the day I can’t talk,” she said.

“But I do think that little added extra in his game will help him win a Grand Slam, possibly the US Open, maybe Wimbledon.”

“Until then, I don’t see him winning one.

“This is not a slight on Michael at all, he will do a great job with whoever he picks up next as a coach, but I do think that Taylor is really struggling now and it’s time for a new voice in his head.”

Michael Russell was named Coach of the Year in 2024, thanks to his efforts as Fritz’s coach, guiding him to the final of the US Open and ATP Finals.

Taylor Fritz’s 2025 ATP Tour struggles

Fritz and Russell no doubt began the season looking to build upon their career-best year in 2024.

Unfortunately for the American duo, things haven’t quite gone to plan during the opening stages of the campaign, as Fritz has accumulated fewer points in 2025 than 18 players.

As it stands, Fritz will fail to qualify for the year-end finals, having reached the final of the event in 2024.

The 27-year-old has failed to make a real impact at most of the events he’s played in 2025, with one exception.

Fritz reached the semi-finals of the Miami Open in March, scoring several impressive victories along the way.

His run eventually came to an end in the last four, as Czech teenager Jakub Mensik beat Fritz in a three-set thriller.

Fritz will be hoping to mark his return to action with another strong run, as he looks to bounce back from a tough loss in Paris.

The world number four is next scheduled to appear at the grass court event in Stuttgart, which begins on June 9.
