Rennae Stubbs predicts if Karolina Muchova will ever win a Grand Slam title after her Wimbledon final loss

Karolina Muchova suffered her second Grand Slam final defeat out of two at Wimbledon, where Linda Noskova emerged victorious.

Noskova defeated Muchova 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 at the All England Club in London, thus claiming her maiden Grand Slam title.

And in the process it condemned her WTA rival to a second Grand Slam runner-up spot, with Muchova having also lost the 2023 French Open final to Iga Swiatek.

Former player Rennae Stubbs has now predicted what the future holds for the 29-year-old following her latest upset, which arrived against a fellow Czech player.

Stubbs, who served as an assistant coach to Serena Williams at Wimbledon, wrote on Substack: “And the way Karolina Muchova handled the loss – with the class she always carries, on and off the court – a speech that was funny, poignant, and heartbreaking all at once, the kind that only wins her more fans, for her tennis and her personality.

“(I mean, who else hits a legitimate tweener on Centre Court in a Wimbledon final?)

“Karolina will win one of these majors one day.

“I truly believe that.

“And she’ll be a very popular champion when she does.”

It’s a big call from Stubbs, who certainly knows what it takes to get over the line on the big stage, having won four Grand Slam doubles titles and two Grand Slam mixed doubles titles.

Stubbs has also recalled what happened in the moments before the Wimbledon final, suggesting that the eventual runner-up was not her usual self.

She noted: “I also saw Karolina Muchova before the match.

“I really like Karolina as a person, and I admire her tennis so much – I think I speak for a lot of people when I say I would have loved to see her hold that trophy at the end of the day, especially with age not on her side the way it is Linda’s.

“But it wasn’t meant to be. Unlike Linda, Karolina was definitely not her usual relaxed self beforehand.

“That doesn’t always predict how someone will play, but watching players before they go out, you do get a sense of who might handle it better.”

Whether or not that had an impact on the match will perhaps never be known, but Muchova can certainly hold her head high after her efforts at SW19.

She was hoping to recover from the loss in Toronto in early August, but the Czech ace is currently out of action after undergoing a small surgery.
