The Serb, in pursuit of a record-extending 25th major crown, hardly put a foot wrong in the opener on Rod Laver Arena.
Djokovic enjoyed strong service games as Alcaraz struggled on return, and took the first set 6-2 to lead the Spaniard.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Stubbs said: “As I pointed out the other day. This is the most aggressive @DjokerNole I’ve ever seen.
“Has he played amazing for 15 years yes. Has he played peak years ago yes. But I have never seen him this aggressive ever.
“Jim Courier said the same thing to me, too. This is our opinion!”
Djokovic has enjoyed an impressive campaign in Melbourne, though he did have some luck along the way.
