Rafael Nadal paid homage to a life-changing rivalry with Novak Djokovic after their final meeting at the Six Kings Slam.
Rafael Nadal announced earlier this month that he will retire from tennis at the Davis Cup finals in Malaga.
Lifelong rival Novak Djokovic defeated Nadal 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in their third-place match at the inaugural exhibition event in Saudi Arabia.
The pair shared a touching embrace at the net after 90 entertaining minutes on court.
Nadal was later presented with a golden tennis racquet to honour his contribution to the Saudi event, as well as his overall impact on the game.

Having faced each other 60 times (excluding exhibitions) and in all four major finals, the Serb’s Olympic win extended his lead to 31-29 in what’s been a truly remarkable rivalry.
A rivalry that has helped shaped tennis and sport more widely, a final instalment at the Six Kings Slam almost felt like a bonus clash between the two.
Speaking after the match, Nadal was quick to thank Djokovic for the enormous impact he’s had on his own career.
“I want to say a few words for Novak and his team. Thank you. For everything. What you said today and all the moments we shared on court. It’s been an amazing rivalry.
“In a personal way, you helped me go over my limits during almost 15 years. Without that, I wouldn’t be the player I am today,” Nadal said in his classic humble style.
“Congratulations for all the titles and amazing career to you and your team. I wish you all the best of luck for the future,” the Spaniard said.
As one amazing rivalry ends, a new one begins
As the legendary rivalry between Djokovic and Nadal enters its twilight, a new and exciting chapter is beginning between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
