Rafael Nadal provided his thoughts on what Andy Murray has done since retiring from tennis.

Both Nadal and Murray, who have four Olympic gold medals between them, bid farewell to two of the best players the sport has seen over the last two decades.

The Brit ended his career after competing at the 2024 Olympic Games, before the 22-time Grand Slam champion hung up his racket after the Davis Cup Finals in November.

Months after their respective retirements, Nadal and Murray have gone down different paths, and they are both happy and content.

Rafael Nadal says what he thinks about Andy Murray’s retirement

Since Rafael Nadal retired from tennis he said he has not picked up a racket, as he gives himself time to adjust to life after the sport.

But Andy Murray on the other hand, may be retired because he is still involved in tennis after he agreed to coach Novak Djokovic from the start of the season.

This was a move that shocked the tennis world as the two fierce rivals were now side by side. But during an interview with The Telegraph, Nadal shared his opinions on the blockbuster partnership.

“It surprised me a bit that, immediately after retiring, Andy wanted to start a project again where he’d be travelling,” Nadal said. “But I understand that the project to be with Novak is an attractive one, and one he would be passionate about.

“Also, I understand for Novak to be with one of his rivals – one of his biggest rivals – as his coach must give him motivation. So I think it’s a good combination.

“I obviously wish them all the best. I think, in the end, Andy is a real tennis enthusiast and to have this opportunity, he’s taken it.”

Does Rafael Nadal plan to play tennis again any time soon?

Just five months after Nadal made his tennis exit, he was asked about the possibility of playing again in some capacity.

This would likely be in the form of exhibition tennis, and fans would love to see Nadal play some exhibition tennis alongside his former rival and friend Roger Federer for example.

While Nadal has not ruled out the possibility of exhibition tennis, it is not on his radar at this moment in time.

“I haven’t yet found the moment in my routine to have that personal motivation to play again,” the former World number one said.

“Probably in the future, if I feel a personal reason to do it, for an exhibition match or something like that. Then I’ll have that motivation. But for now, that moment hasn’t come yet.”
