‘Quite crazy’… Karolina Pliskova shares whirlwind 24 hours after winning title on Sunday

Karolina Pliskova has been sharing her whirlwind 24 hours between winning the Winners Open in Romania to kicking off her Qatar Open campaign.

The Czech player has been speaking with Sky Sports about her schedule.

Well, it’s quite remarkable what Pliskova has been through but incredibly she is still winning matches.

Right now, the 31-year-old is on the crest of a wave ever since she defeated Ana Bogdan in Sunday’s Winners Open Final in Romania.

Just 24 hours later, she was on court again – this time in Qatar – beating Anna Kalinskaya and since then she’s also come through tough matches against Anastasia Potapova and Linda Noskova.

Pliskova concedes it’s been a pretty hectic few days and has been discussing her ridiculously challenging schedule.

She told Sky Sports: “Yes, it was quite crazy, I didn’t enjoy the title win at all – and still not now – because I had to take a private jet from Cluj to Istanbul and then I was running to get the flight so that was actually the toughest part of the week in Romania to run and get the plane!

“I slept a little bit in the plane and then I arrived in the morning, slept a little bit more, maybe three hours and then I had to play. Sometimes you’re not thinking but you’re playing well. Even today I was like 6-1, 4-1 up and then it went to the third set and I feel everything has happened in the last couple of days. “

Pliskova will hope to keep momentum going

After a first-round exit at the Australian Open to number three seed Elena Rybakina, Pliskova has thrown herself into everything.

She roared to the title last week and clearly, she’s playing extremely well right now, with the Qatar Open in her sights.

Tomorrow will see Pliskova experience a true test of character when she comes up against a resurgent Naomi Osaka.

If she does come through that match, she would be into another semi-final and then Pliskova might start dreaming of a second title in a week.

Pliskova has been to finals at Wimbledon and the US Open and on current form, we think 2024 might be the year she finally gets her hands on some proper silverware.
