Paula Badosa has been struck down with yet another injury in the consistently cruel fashion we are becoming accustomed to.

The Spaniard is now set for another lay-off, having retired from three tournaments already in 2024. It seems she is destined to endure another year laden with fitness troubles, having been forced to pull out of all four Grand Slams last year.

However, she has sought to update her fans on the severity of her latest ailment in an effort to quash fears.

But what is she planning to do to ensure her next return is a conclusive one? Let’s take a closer look…

What Paula Badosa said about her latest injury

It has been a desperately disappointing year already for Badosa, and only seems to be getting worse.

With Indian Wells and the Miami Open to come, followed by her hometown Madrid Open in April, both she and her fans will be praying for a safe return that allows her to compete in these elite competitions.

Only then will she be able to recapture her form of old to challenge in the Grand Slams.

Badosa took to X to issue an injury update: ‘Want to thank everyone that has sent supportive messages this past days on this difficult moments for me. It’s being a long process, but I won’t give up. Tennis is my life and passion, and I’ll do anything to comeback as soon as possible and enjoy this sport again. Love, P.’

Paula Badosa cannot catch a break

Nobody likes to see an athlete plagued with unrelenting fitness issues, not least one as talented as Badosa.

Across any sport, it is noted just how frustrating and mentally taxing an elongated period out of the game can be on those who suffer, and for the 26-year-old, she has suffered more than most.

Especially given how high she once was, having been the world number two as recently as 2022.

However, that seems so long ago now, with her new narrative dominated by injuries.

An aggressive baseline player with a powerful serve and two-handed backhand, it has been over a year since we have been treated to the peak of her talents. And even when she threatened to put a run together earlier in the year, making it into the third round of the Australian Open, her following tournament ultimately ended in a walkover.

It is this relentless cycle that she must break, but going about achieving that can sometimes feel impossible. The tennis community will be hoping for her safe return to fitness as soon as possible.
